Discovery+ is currently in development on a docuseries that will cover the dark history of Glee. The Fox musical comedy, which ran from 2009 through 2015, followed the exploits of the various members of a high school Glee club, led by artistically minded Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) against the will of his arch-nemesis, cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). Over the years, the Glee club included football star Finn (Cory Monteith), his bad boy teammate Puck (Mark Salling), tart-tongued cheerleader Santana (Naya Rivera) and her eventual girlfriend Brittany (Heather Morris), bullied gay teen Kurt (Chris Colfer) and his future boyfriend Blaine (Darren Criss), and the diva Rachel Berry (Lea Michele).

Over the course of its six-season run, Glee was an incredibly popular series, making stars of nearly performer in the cast, many of whom appeared in a live concert tour for the series, eventually becoming the group with the most singles to hit the Billboard Hot 100 charts since The Beatles. However, the show was first rocked by tragedy when Monteith passed away from an overdose between seasons 4 and 5. Their troubles did not abate after the show concluded, as multiple cast members passed away under unusual circumstances and allegations came to light that Michele's behavior on the Glee set was unprofessional and racist.

Per Deadline, Discovery+ and ID will be collaborating on a new docuseries covering the dark behind-the-scenes drama of Glee. The series is continuing their habit of plumbing the depths of extremely recent pop culture controversies, as they did with their Armie Hammer documentary House of Hammer, which explored the allegations against the actor as well as his family's alleged history of wrongdoing. The Glee doc will feature interviews with several surviving cast members about their time on the series.

Everything That Could Be Discussed In The Glee Docuseries

Even if the series stuck with only covering the period of time that Glee was airing, there would still be plenty to cover, between Monteith's death and Michele's alleged behavior. However, the events that followed the end of Glee will likely provide the bulk of the runtime, including the disappearance of Rivera and the eventual discovery of her death by drowning in California's Lake Piru in 2020. The passing of Salling will likely also be covered, as the actor died by suicide in 2018 after being arrested for possession of child pornography.

Glee's dark history has certainly featured many periods that the docuseries can cover. Some audience members will feel that it is too soon to be diving into these particular controversies. However, there are likely quite a few fans of the series who are curious about the impact of these events on the surviving cast members and how they've been able to handle such a string of difficulties.
