Luke Danes is definitely a fan-favorite character. He was a great match for Lorelai, a reliable father-figure to Rory, and of course, a great cook - but that doesn't mean he's without flaws.

Throughout all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, Luke has made some questionable choices and his character development hasn't always been the most positive. From constantly being in a bad mood to pushing Lorelai away, Luke became more unlikeable as the series progressed. Keep reading to find out the 10 ways he got worse and worse.

He's Always In A Bad Mood

Luke was almost always in a constant state of frustration. Whether he's annoyed with Taylor's endless nagging or Lorelai's intense coffee addiction, he had no problem spreading his bitterness around Stars Hollow.

In the initial seasons, it was sort of endearing, but the joke got old over time. The smallest things set Luke off and fans could always count on him to be grumpy and irritable.

He Let Liz Take Advantage Of Him

There's no denying that Luke was a good brother but he needed more boundaries when it came to Liz. He let his sister walk all over him whenever she came to town.

Luke even let Liz send Jess to Stars Hollow when he became too difficult to raise. This was definitely an overstep on Liz's part, Jess is absolutely her responsibility - not Luke's.

He Married Nicole

Spontaneously marrying Nicole just wasn't in line with Luke's character as he rarely acted on impulse when it came to relationships. Luke is old-fashioned and methodical so fans were extremely confused when he and Nicole eloped on a cruise ship.

Aside from this, Luke had to have known that he had feelings for Lorelai, regardless of whether or not he wanted to admit it. Marrying another woman without thinking things through just wasn't a good move on his part.

He Was On Jess's Side

Aside from Jess being family, Luke had no reason to constantly defend Jess to Lorelai and the rest of the town in season two. Sure, he didn't want to let Liz down and he wanted Jess to thrive in Stars Hollow - but that's no reason to turn a blind eye to all of the bad things Jess did.

When Jess first moved to town he was nothing but disrespectful and irresponsible, nonetheless,  Luke almost always had his back.

He Didn't Tell Lorelai About His Feelings Sooner

Luke and Lorelai's relationship was foreshadowed from the very beginning of the series. Their chemistry was obvious and fans couldn't wait for the day when these two would finally get together.

It's hard to believe that Luke wasn't aware of his feelings for Lorelai until season four. In fact, it's blatantly obvious that Luke was jealous of Lorelai's relationship with Alex in the season three episode, "Lorelai Out Of Water."

He Didn't Intervene When Lorelai and Rory Were Fighting

Most Gilmore Girls fans will agree that one of the worst storylines of the show is the one that revolved around Lorelai and Rory's endless fight in season five. Their tight mother-daughter relationship was easily the best part of the series so it was a shame to go without their dynamic for so long.

Lorelai and Luke were in a serious relationship during this time so fans would have loved to see Luke try harder to get these two back together.

He Couldn't Enjoy Martha's Vineyard

Luke's grumpiness hit an all-time high during season six. In "A Vineyard Valentine," the Gilmore girls decided to double date with Luke and Logan at Martha's Vineyard and Luke was determined to have a bad time.

Not only did Luke constantly belittle Logan during the trip but he also neglected to get Lorelai a Valentine's Day gift. Luke was in higher spirits by the end of the weekend but this episode was still pretty hard to watch.

He Kept April A Secret

This is another storyline that Gilmore Girls fans could have gone without. In the episode, "The Prodigal Daughter Returns," Luke found out that he had a daughter with ex-girlfriend Anna Nardini.

Luke always stressed how important honesty was to him in a relationship, this is exactly why viewers were so confused when he kept April a secret from Lorelai. This was the beginning of the end for Lorelai and Luke until the series the finale.

He Postponed The Wedding

It's hard to believe that Luke would be on board with postponing the wedding simply because of April. Sure, having a daughter came as a huge surprise to him but it was no reason to push Lorelai away.

Luke had been in love with Lorelai for years and things were finally coming together for them. Committing to Lorelai should have been a no-brainer.

He Let Lorelai Get Away

Even though Lorelai sleeping with Christopher is what ultimately broke these two up, it was Luke's fear of commitment that caused Lorelai to spiral in the first place.

Luke had been in love with Lorelai for years but never fought hard enough for her. He scared way too easy, which was definitely one of his biggest character flaws.
