Logan Huntzberger is best known for being Rory's third boyfriend on Gilmore Girls and the potential father of her baby. He started his time on the series as an egotistical rich boy who had a soft spot for Rory, but grew into a successful, respectable young man prepared to take over the family business.

Gilmore fans are usually pretty divided over which of Rory's boyfriends was the best, and in recent years, Jess Mariano has been deemed her intellectual equal. However, some viewers believe that Logan was not only Rory's best match, but also one of the best characters in the later years, and his plotline in the revival didn't do him justice.

He Was Even Charming In The Beginning

Logan and Rory's first official meeting

Logan was introduced during Rory's second year at Yale in season 5. He was meant to be the opposite of Dean, Rory's first boyfriend, whom she had recently gotten back together with. His personality was arrogant and entitled, embodying a kid who came from a privileged childhood versus Rory's Stars Hollows one.

However, some fans on Reddit believe that, despite his arrogant nature, Logan was endearing in the beginning. He grew into a loving, compassionate boyfriend, but had the makings of being one from his introduction. A fan wrote, "I actually really liked Logan from the beginning and found his personality quite charming."

He Was Dumbed Down in Season 6

Logan confronting Jess

In season 6, Jess returns to Connecticut and has a night out with Rory and her new boyfriend. Logan and Jess don't get off to a great start (or end), and their dispute ends up driving a wedge between Rory and Logan's relationship.

Despite Logan having been portrayed up until that point as educated and intellectual, he comes across the opposite in his conversations with Jess, and is written to appear much dumber than the book-lover. A Reddit user called out Amy Sherman-Palladino's writing saying, "That scene with Logan and Jess could have been fire. Both smart guys. Both known to outwit Rory. But all Logan had for Jess were a bunch of uppity insults and name-dropping dead authors?!"

Lorelai and Logan Have A Lot In Common

A lot of fans have compared Logan's character to that of Rory's father, Christopher, because they both represent a privileged lifestyle. It's been justification from Team Jess fans as a way to equate Jess with being Rory's 'Luke' and Logan being her 'Christopher.'

A fan on Reddit pointed out that it's actually possible that Lorelai and Logan had a lot more in common than Logan and Christopher, which could be an added reason that Lorelai never seemed to like Logan much. The user said, "Like Logan, she would have gotten into an Ivy League school and most likely enjoyed the party life side of college like him more than the academic side like Rory."

Logan Was Too Good For Rory

Logan and Rory were a good match for her college years, but others have spoken out about how Rory deserved better for her future. Fans hoped she would reunite with Jess due to his character growth and leave Logan behind, arguing that she deserved better than Logan's family business and entitled ways.

However, a fan questioned if Logan was actually out of Rory's league and if he could do better than her. They mentioned how outgoing and spontaneous he is while describing Rory as being, "far too bland, personality-wise, for Logan."

He Was a Realistic Young Adult

Logan made a lot of questionable decisions during his time at Yale, such as engaging in dangerous activities for the Life and Death Brigade and helping his girlfriend steal a yacht.

In a thread asking viewers why they liked Logan, a fan wrote about how Logan's behavior was realistic for a young adult trying to break free from his parents and find his own way. They answered the original poster's question with one of their own, "I mean, in terms of making something of your life..he's 22. What exactly is he suppose to have done by the time we meet him?"

Lorelai's Hatred Of Him Was Justified

While Lorelai never really liked a boyfriend of Rory's that wasn't Dean, she was especially cold to Logan even after he continued to attempt to win her over.

While most fans view Lorelai's treatment of Logan to be hypocritical given her upbringing, Reddit users pointed out that Lorelai's first real impression of him was when he stole from Emily and Richard at a Friday Night Dinner. Additionally, a user wrote, "Logan reminds Lorelai of a life she ran away from and a life she doesn't want for Rory," and that her resentment toward him makes sense.

His Revival Storyline Made No Sense

Logan in the 2016 revival

In the 2016 revival of the hit show, Logan is shown to be doing well for himself in London, but it is also revealed that he is engaged to a woman named Odette while also having an affair with Rory.

A Logan fan on Reddit complained that Logan's arc in the revival was an unfair representation of his character, and made him out to be the very person he grew out of. In their impassioned post they said, "It makes no sense, it feels like writers simply ignored his whole growth and pretended season 7 didn't exist."

Rory Should've Said 'Yes' To His Proposal

In the second to last episode of the series, Logan proposes to Rory at her graduation party. He has a life planned for them out in California where she they can have a house and she can be a journalist, but she shuts him down in pursuit of her own path.

While most fans back her decision to be independent, one wrote on Reddit that Rory's mistake was rejecting him because he wasn't standing in the way of her independence, "Logan was never going to expect her to give that up. He just wanted to take the next step, but he was the one who was always telling Rory to take the risk."

He Was Rory's Best Boyfriend

Nobody can seem to completely agree on who Rory's best boyfriend was. Some argue for Dean as her first love, others back Jess because they had the most in common, but few root for Logan, fearing he represented a lifestyle Lorelai taught Rory to stay away from.

Those who do love Logan, love him fully and completely and will die on the hill that he was far and away Rory's one true love. A fan wrote, "He matured a lot from the beginning. And he really seemed to love Rory." They added that he always challenged her without comprising himself, something Jess and Dean were never able to do.
