As the passionate and hilarious chef on Gilmore GirlsSookie St. James was the go-to for delicious food and quirky conversation. Lorelai loved hanging out with her best friend and the perks of getting to eat her meals and treats were pretty great, too. It was sweet watching Sookie fall for Jackson and start her family, as she definitely deserved all the success and happiness in the world.

Sookie is a fairly unconventional character who likes to do things her own way. But while she sometimes gave other people really intelligent advice, there were other moments on the show when she was on the wrong track.

Best: "He has had to watch you go from one guy to another..."

He has had to watch you go from one guy to another, and then the engagement, and then the engagement was off, and patiently he's waited, and now in walks this kid and he says 'My God, will she date anyone else in the world before she'll date me?'

When Lorelai and Luke finally started dating, the couple had some awful arguments.

Before they even admitted that they loved each other, there were some tense moments, especially when Luke had to watch Lorelai date other people. Sookie gave Lorelai some smart advice and said she should realize that Luke was waiting for her to be single. She said that Luke watched her almost marry Max and then date casually when he wished that she would notice him. This was tough for Lorelai to hear, and if she was willing to listen to her best friend, she should have confessed her love to Luke right away. She needed a bit more time, though.

Worst: "You want to get fancy, you can do that at your own diner. My béchamel sauce is classic."

While Sookie was a messy and klutzy chef, she was never happier than when she was in her own kitchen, whipping up a new and creative dish.

When Sookie was on bedrest, Luke helped her out in her kitchen, and this was really hard for her to handle. She didn't like feeling out of control and she hated that he was cooking her recipes. She tried to give him the advice that he should steer away from the "fancy" food and cook the way that she would. This was terrible advice because Luke was trying to be a good friend and help her out in her time of need.

Best: "Pictured him more with a Lorelai Gilmore kind of pretty?... You're jealous of Rachel."

While Gilmore Girls fans rooted for Lorelai and Luke, Luke and his ex-girlfriend Rachel had a great relationship, too. When she came back to Stars Hollow in the first season, Lorelai realized that there might be competition for Luke's affection. Of course, she hadn't admitted that she liked him yet, so this presented some complications.

Sookie gave some solid advice and tried to get Lorelai to see that she had feelings for Luke. Lorelai asked, "You're accusing me of being jealous of a woman who dumped a man I'm not even interested in five years ago?" and she said it was crazy. Sookie agreed that it was crazy but Lorelai was green with envy.

Worst: "Now, I want you to imagine your dream car. It can be anything you want..."

Now, I want you to imagine your dream car. It can be anything you want. You're backing out of the driveway. You're driving through Stars Hollow. 'Good morning, Townspeople! Top of the morning to you.'

When Sookie gave Lorelai this advice in the seventh season, she was trying to help her pick out a great car.

Lorelai said that she was thinking about a float, so while Sookie had good intentions, she forgot an important factor: that Lorelai was incredibly silly and could turn any situation into a joke. Sookie gave up after that, realizing that her friend would have to find the perfect car herself. It was definitely a hilarious exchange, even if Sookie wasn't much help.

Best: "Maybe he thought you wanted to see him and you didn't know how to say it."

Luke and Lorelai in the diner on Gilmore Girls

In the season 1 episode "The Damn Donna Reed," Rory cooked dinner for Dean, and there was another storyline that was entertaining and hilarious. Rory had a baby chick for school, and when the chick got loose in the house, Lorelai called Luke to help her find it.

Sookie suggested that Luke assumed that Lorelai was inviting her over because she wanted to have a romantic evening. She kept explaining that in most cases, there wouldn't really be a baby chick, since that sounded like a random and fake excuse. Sookie often tried to get Lorelai to see how much Luke cared about her.

Worst: "She just loves you."

Miss Patty giving a lesson in Gilmore Girls

When Lorelai was complaining that Miss Patty was trying to set her up in the second season episode "A Tisket, A Tasket," Sookie said that Patty was doing that out of love.

While Sookie's heart was in the right place, this wasn't what Lorelai wanted to hear. People always want to set up their single friends, but their friends don't always want this because blind dates can be super awkward. Lorelai would have preferred if the town of Stars Hollow would have let her have some space to figure out what she wanted.

Best: "Want to know the last time I saw staff and maids looking this scared of their boss? Your mother's house."

While Emily Gilmore knows all about etiquette, she could be pretty scary to work for. A running joke on Gilmore Girls was how Emily was always firing her employees, even if they had only been there for a day or so.

When Sookie gave Lorelai this piece of advice, she was trying to get her to take a break, and it worked because the last thing that Lorelai wants to be is her mother. Sookie helped Lorelai see that she could step away from work and enjoy her life, nothing bad would happen. But if she kept working so hard, she would only upset her staff.

Worst: "I didn’t want to ruin anything. We’re doing so well, we have so much fun, it’s all working."

Sookie and Jackson talking on Gilmore Girls

In the same second season episode, Jackson told Sookie that his lease was up, and he wanted to move in together. Sookie freaked out because she didn't want their relationship to move too fast.

Sookie was full of nerves about taking this step and when she tried to give Jackson the advice that things should remain status quo between them, she was definitely wrong. When Jackson proposed, she accepted and realized that of course, she wanted to take the next step. Their relationship was only going to grow and there was no danger of them falling apart.

Best: "Okay, can I say one more thing? I think it's your only option."

Lorelai showing Sookie Rory's Chilton acceptance letter on Gilmore Girls

In the pilot of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai asked her parents for money for Chilton. It took her a bit of time to work up the courage, though, as this was the last thing that she wanted to do.

After she and Sookie jumped for joy over Rory's acceptance letter, Lorelai realized she needed to come up with some cash. Sookie suggested asking her mom and dad, and Lorelai said, "Sookie, there are several chapters from a Stephen King novel I'd reenact before I'd resort to that option." Despite her hesitation, Lorelai eventually realized that Sookie was right.

Worst: "I want to chime in and be supportive, but I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Sookie was always a good friend, and she wanted to give Lorelai advice whenever she could.

In this instance, she was confused by Lorelai and had no idea what she was supposed to say. While this makes sense because Lorelai could talk very fast and be off in her own world, was it really what Lorelai needed to hear from her pal? Sometimes part of being friends with someone is smiling and agreeing with whatever they're saying even when they sound a bit silly.
