In April of 2021, Scott Patterson (aka Luke Danes) announced that he was teaming up with iHeartRadio for a podcast dedicated to Gilmore Girls called I Am All In. The podcast would go on to recap the entire series with episodes once a week. Shockingly, Patterson admits that he has never seen the entire series from start to finish; he has only seen the pilot. Recapping the series will be unique because it's the first time seeing the series play out in front of him.
The recapping of the series made by an actor on the show is the first of its kind and Patterson promises to dish on everything from the actors, behind-the-scenes secrets, and even answer questions from fans.
Diehard Fans Will Recognize The Podcast's Name
Diehard Gilmore Girls fans will notice right away where the "I am all in" comes from in Patterson's podcast. In season five's "Written in the Stars," Luke and Lorelai are finally dating after years of flirting and gaining each other's trust. In an effort to wine and dine Lorelai, Luke takes her to his own version of Luke's Diner, Sniffy's Tavern. Luke told Lorelai that he's known the owners for decades and that they're like family to him.
While at dinner, the two began reminiscing on the first time they met. It had been years, after all. And after Luke told her about what an impression she made on him, he admitted that he was "all in" in reference to their relationship. Hearing Luke say "I just want you to know I'm in. I am all in" was like music to #TeamLuke fans. The podcast getting named after one of Luke's best lines seems like an excellent choice.
Fans Will Recognize The Voices Of The First Guests
On Patterson's first episode of I Am All In, he has two very important special guests, Yanic Truesdale (aka Michel) and Macy Gray. While fans are familiar with Yanic's presence in the series, Macy Gray's is a little fuzzy.
In the Gilmore Girls pilot, Rory jams out to Macy Gray when she was mad at her mom about switching schools from Stars Hollow to Chilton. With the pilot premiering in the early 2000s, Macy Gray was huge at the time. Patterson interviews Macy about her career and how she felt about being a part of the start of Gilmore Girls.
There Will Be A Lot Of Episodes To Listen To
With an episode premiering every week, this means there will be at least 153 episodes of I Am All In. Gilmore Girls had 153 episodes in the original series and then four episodes in the reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Scott Patterson was along for the ride every step of the way, making him one of the best people to talk about it all.
It should also be noted that Gilmore Girls episodes were length, running around 40-45 minutes long. The first episode of I Am All In runs just over 75 minutes. With so many storylines, character developments, and behind-the-scenes stories, there's almost too much to cover in one episode of the podcast!
There's A Gilmore Girls Clause
In March of 2021, Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) told EW Live that she has a Gilmore Girls clause in all of her current and upcoming contracts. Playing Lorelai Gilmore was one of Graham's best roles and probably the role she's most known for. In the clause, she's allowed to get out of her commitments within a period of time if another reboot of Gilmore Girls gets the greenlight. There's been no concrete evidence that a second reboot is coming but based on the cliffhanger that A Year in the Life ended on, it's safe to say that something would be coming in the future.
Just like Lauren Graham, Scott Patterson also has a Gilmore Girls clause. In a quick three-minute rapid-fire interview, Patterson said, "I would take time off from the podcast for sure." He'd leave behind anything to play the one and only Luke Danes again for fans.
The Trailer For The Podcast Was Telling
After Patterson introduced a one-minute snippet into the future of the I Am All In podcast, he released a second three-minute trailer to get fans excited for some of the information that's about to be dropped in the podcast.
After being asked a series of questions, Patterson tells fans how he thought of the podcast along with some personal views on the show. After being asked if Patterson was Team Logan or Team Jess, he unsurprisingly said Team Jess (he did play Jess's uncle after all). He also told listeners that he can smell snow (unlike his character), his favorite coffee order is a black coffee, and that he has no idea who the father of Rory's baby is. If those three minutes weren't juicy enough, fans can't wait to see what happens during the podcast.
Here's Where To Listen
So where can Gilmore Girls fans listen to Scott Patterson's new podcast? The first episode aired on May 3, 2021, on the iHeartRadio app.
Fans can also listen to the podcast on Apple products and on Spotify. This will definitely be a great treat for long-time fans of the series.
