Gilmore Girls presented many different serious relationships throughout the series, but one of the controversial is Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger during their time at Yale University. Some fans thought that Logan was charming, dashing, and perfect for Rory - especially when he started to grow up, and shift away from his wilder ways. On the flip side, there were those who found him to be just a bratty rich kid, and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Either way, though, he was probably Rory's most serious relationship in the show - and one that nearly ended in an engagement.
Even in the Netflix revival, A Year in The Life, Rory and Logan have rekindled their relationship as 30-something adults. Though things have become infinitely more complicated due to Logan's engagement, their love for each other remains strong and true, and these moments during the show's original love indicate why.
When They Brought Out The Best in Each Other
One of the most iconic episodes of the show, "You Jump I Jump, Jack" has Rory doing a story on the Life and Death Brigade, a secret society within Yale.
On a weekend getaway with the prestigious members of this exclusive club, she takes many leaps of faith -- both figuratively and literally. It's during this episode that Rory starts to get to know Logan, and he pushes her outside of her comfort zone. "In Onmnia Paratus", shouts the LDB, which is Latin for 'ready for all things'.
When He Told Her She'd Be Okay
When Rory got back together with Dean at the beginning of Season 5, Lorelai and fans alike knew it was doomed. He was still legally married, and they were trying to rekindle their 'first love' relationship while living completely different lives.
At a party her grandmother throws that was basically her own episode of The Bachelorette, Rory gets carried away and forgets of her and Dean's plans. When he shows up, he breaks things off with Rory because he doesn't fit in her 'world' anymore. Logan assures her that she'll be fine, and comforts her immediately following the breakup.
When She Asked Him Out
During Emily and Richard's vow renewal ceremony, Rory notices that Logan didn't actually bring a date, just a family friend. She asks why he hasn't just asked her out already, because clearly the two have feelings for one another.
Logan, not being the dating type, is afraid of not living up to Rory's boyfriend expectations. He thinks she deserves better, but she knows she wants to at least give it a try. In true Gilmore fashion, she tells him outright and makes the first move.
When They Had Healthy Communication Skills
Logan and Rory were always really good at being open and honest with each other about where things stood in their relationship - at least, after they got over the initial awkwardness. He told her when he wasn't ready to be serious, when he was, and came clean about the things he wasn't always proud of.
When Rory and Logan decide to give their relationship a go, they both make their expectations clear. And when Logan sneaks into Rory's room for the first time, he repeatedly asks for her consent before staying the night. Their relationship was built on a mutual respect for each other, something Rory's relationships with Dean and Jess were lacking.
Whenever He Called Her 'Ace'
Taken aback by Rory's confidence and intelligence, Logan immediately calls her 'Ace' in the Yale Daily News room. 'Ace' meaning that she is an ace reporter, driven, passionate, and capable.
This nickname becomes an integral part of their relationship. Anytime he calls her 'Rory' it seems as if things are serious or something is wrong. 'Ace' represents how he sees her, admires her, and is proud of the person he is when he's around her.
When He Agreed To Be Her Boyfriend
Logan 'I can't be your boyfriend' Huntzberger has a change of heart once Rory tells him that she thought she could do the casual thing, but she doesn't have it in her. She's a relationship kind of girl, and if he can't handle that then she will just have to move on.
The honestly propels Logan to challenge himself and try to be Rory's boyfriend. He ends up doing a pretty decent job, and the two of them have a long-lasting relationship. Logan changing his ways for Rory is a big indicator that the two are meant to be.
When They Were There For Each Other
The number of times these two meet in hospitals is probably too many, but shows their devotion to each other, even when life gets rough.
Following Logan's reckless accident, Rory comes to be by his side and doesn't leave until he is better. And when Rory's grandfather is hospitalized following a heart attack, Logan gets on a helicopter to be with his girlfriend. It's a stark contrast from Lorelai waiting for her husband Christopher to come support her, something that happens a little too late.
When He Helped Her Save The Yale Daily News
Following Paris's Editor-in-Chief meltdown, Rory is left to pick up the pieces and ensure that the next day's issue of the Yale Daily News gets published in time.
Since most of the staff has left due to Paris, Rory is desperate for help. Logan comes through and joins them in their efforts, helping Rory and the rest of the team accomplish their goal. He's able to use his connections and experience to give Rory the final moments she needs for her hard work to pay off, and they can celebrate this win together. The pair works incredibly well together, even in a time crunch.
When She Was Heartbroken To See Him Go
At the end of Season 6, Logan's father sets him up with a job in London, making him grow up and graduate once and for all.
His relocation breaks both his and Rory's hearts, even if it's only for a brief period of time. It hurts Rory to know that 1) he won't be doing what he loves and 2) they'll no longer be with each other every day. The distance proves to be a non-threat for their strong love, but the scene where he leaves is heartbreaking nevertheless.
When He Sent Her The Rocket, and She Figured Out What It Meant
Logan sends Rory a model rocketship after he leaves for London, a gift she doesn't immediately understand.
He later explains to her the symbolism behind it. His favorite episode of The Twilight Zone, where a man waits his entire life to be with the woman he loves. Logan previously recalled that that was an act of true love, and the gift is indicative of how he would wait for her, no matter the time or distance because theirs is true love.
