Rory and Lorelai's relationship is definitely the focus of Gilmore Girlsbut Rory also spends a lot of time getting to know her grandparents, and she realizes that she loves having them in her life. While Rory and Richard connect over books and dreams of travel, Emily and Rory get along well too, and these two characters also have some interesting things in common.

Rory only becomes close with her grandmother when she turns 16, but they bond and learn more about each other as time progresses, and their relationship is very meaningful. From personality traits to some of their behavior, Rory and Emily share many similarities.

Emily And Rory Care About What Others Think

From Rory's sweetest Gilmore Girls moments, fans know that she likes to be there for the people in her social circle. But sometimes, Rory's people pleasing nature can be problematic as it masks what she really wants and it can be tough for her to stand up for herself when she's in high school.

Since Emily cares about being liked by others and she wants to keep up with her peers, she can fall into the trap of worrying too much about other people as well. This is something that Rory and her grandma have in common, and they both realize at various times that making other people happy doesn't matter as long as they are content themselves.

They Both Have Great Organizational Skills

Rory and Emily also share a love of detail, organization, and keeping a strict schedule. Whether Rory is planning out her schoolwork or making pro and con lists about her college prospects, or Emily is coordinating her social life or figuring out her next party, both characters thrive on making lists and being busy.

When Rory lives with Emily and Richard in season 6, she joins the DAR and seems to love being part of a group who gets things done. While this isn't the best place for Rory since she should be at Yale, this plotline does show that Rory and Emily have a similar personality.

They Love Going To Europe

When Emily and Rory go to Europe at the beginning of season 5, they have an amazing time together and Rory crosses a lot of things off her to-see list.

The fact that Rory and her grandma both love Europe and are fascinated by all that it has to offer is meaningful since it shows that this is something else that they can connect over. Its hard for the entire Gilmore family to talk about the past and there are many conversation topics that seem to be off-limits, so it's nice that they can share some wanderlust.

Emily And Rory Deal With Judgmental Family Members

Both characters also have to hear family members say mean things about them and wonder about their life decisions. Trix can be a harsh Gilmore Girls character, as Richard's mother never liked Emily and didn't think that she was a good match for Richard. Rory also has to hear a lot of negative comments from Christopher's father Straub.

Rory and Emily have both done nothing wrong, as of course Rory had nothing to do with the circumstances of her birth and Emily had the right to fall in love with Richard and want to be with him. While they don't talk about this tough subject, they do both struggle.

They Share A Fierce Determination To Get What They Want

Whether Rory is telling Emily that she didn't actually want a fancy party with her Chilton peers, or Emily is sharing that she wants to be a bigger part of Rory and Emily's lives, both Rory and Emily do explain what they want when they feel that it's necessary.

It's interesting to see such passionate determination in both of these characters. While sometimes Rory can be too headstrong, like when she drops out of Yale, and Emily doesn't always consider other people's feelings, it's still impressive that Emily and Rory can be so clear on what they want at certain points.

They Have A Hard Time Saying When They Love Someone

Just like Emily can't tell Rory and Lorelai that she loves them, Rory struggles to share her feelings for Dean, proving another way that Rory and Emily are similar.

Gilmore Girls fans remember fondly when Lorelai teaches Rory that it's okay to love someone and that things will work out. She has a great speech about sharing her love for Taylor Hanson, which adds a funny and sweet element to the storyline. Emily also doesn't share much and it's rare to hear her declare her love for Richard, Rory or Lorelai. Emily comes close when she tells Richard that she demands to pass away before him in season 1.

Emily And Rory Both Love The Chilton Experience

Emily forgets about boundaries on Gilmore Girls at times, like when she shows up at Rory's first day at her new private school. But this does show that Emily cares as much about Rory's education as Rory does herself.

Rory wants to make a good first impression at her new school and so does Emily, who reads the school communications and wants Rory to have more than one uniform and any branded clothing. While Lorelai doesn't feel like these things matter that much, as she laughs at talking about a hair accessory, Emily and Rory think that the details matter.

They Believe That Lorelai Should Talk About Her Love Life

Rory and Emily both find it totally confusing that when Lorelai is engaged to Max, and when she calls off the wedding, she doesn't think that she should tell her parents about what's going on.

Emily is understandably upset when she learns the truth, and Rory is often baffled by her mom's actions. It's interesting that Rory and her grandma are united in thinking that Lorelai should be open and honest about her dating life. It does seem like Emily would be nicer about it than Lorelai thinks as Emily does want Lorelai to find love.

Emily And Rory Both Think Lorelai Should Ask For Financial Support

While money can be confusing on Gilmore Girls, Emily and Richard do always have enough money to help Lorelai out and pay for Rory's education as they're very wealthy. Both Emily and Rory think that Lorelai shouldn't hesitate or be afraid to ask for help with her bank account.

When Lorelai needs some quick cash in season 2, Rory asks Emily and Richard for help because she doesn't understand why Lorelai was resisting. Emily and Richard are always totally fine to pay for things, and Emily and Rory both agree that they can be there to help out.

Emily And Rory Pack Their Schedules When Grieving Or Sad

Both Emily and Rory find it tough to deal with the sad emotions of a break-up or a tough time, making this another big thing that they have in common.

When Dean breaks up with Rory in season 1, she makes a list and races around Stars Hollow. And when Emily is worried about Richard's recovery in season 7, she wants to continue socializing and staying busy. It seems significant that they both act in similar ways.
