Rory Gilmore is one half of the lead mother-daughter duo in Gilmore Girls. She transforms in front of fans' eyes throughout the show's seven seasons, from a naive freshman in high school to a young woman with a bright future ahead of her as a Yale graduate.
As beloved as Gilmore Girls is, fans can't help but poke fun at Rory's many downfalls and flaws. She's a brilliant and privileged young lady but follows in her mother's footsteps and makes plenty of mistakes along the way. Emily and Richard Gilmore only want what's best for Rory. They may just be her grandparents but they treat her like the daughter they never had. Unlike Lorelai, Rory was Ivy League-bound and destined for big things, nor did she mind the fancy events her grandparents forced her to attend.
Knowing how special Rory was, Emily loathed Jess when he was dating Rory. He was rude, uneducated, secretive, and not country club material. Logan Huntzberger, on the other hand, came from a well-known family and wealth. He was the perfect trust fund match for Rory.
When Did Jess Become The Voice Of Reason?
As close as Dean and Rory were, it turns out Jess was the voice inside her head. Jess didn't care about school or any of the "normal" things kids his age did, but he did know Rory like the back of his hand. Jess and Rory weren't even together for a long period of time but they understood each other incredibly well.
The only reason Rory went back to Yale was because Jess snapped her out of her tunnel vision. If he never yelled at her, who knows if she would have gone back earlier than expected. Likewise, in A Year In The Life, Jess told her she should write a book based on her relationship with her mother. And poof — Rory decided it was time to become an author and do just that. Who knew the kind of hold he had on her after all those years?
Nice Try, Rory
Rory is an incredibly bright young woman but her personal relationships and decision-making are a mess. Sure, her mother made a mistake by getting pregnant young and had a string of odd relationships. But Rory also has a rough track record when it comes to men.
She kissed Tristan and Jess while she was on and off with Dean, and she kissed Jess (again) when she was on and off with Logan. The worst thing she's ever done, however, was sleep with Dean while he was married. Rory justified it because she had him first but Lorelai wasn't having any of it.
Twinsies!
When Lorelai gave birth to Rory, she was so stressed that she ended up naming her daughter after herself. However, instead of referring to her as Lorelai, Lorelai nicknamed her Rory and it stuck. The two grew together and were practically twins. Both had dark hair, blue eyes, spoke fast, and made a boatload of poor decisions. But that's life; they were learning with and from each other.
Logan Was A Complicated Man
When Rory first met Logan at Yale, he was spoiled and entitled. He treated those he thought were beneath him like garbage and thought he owned Yale based on who his family was. After meeting Rory, the two fell for each other but he knew he wasn't boyfriend material. Rory went along with the whole casual dating thing but everything changed at a Halloween party.
Both Rory and Logan showed up with dates, though Logan was incensed that Rory didn't come alone. But wasn't he the one who implemented the whole casual dating thing?! This meme says it all. The arrangement was not Rory's idea — it was Logan's.

There's something about the Gilmore Girls opening credits that gets fans' heartbeats racing. The theme song is longer than most shows but fans stick with it because of how catchy the song is. The introduction also does a lovely job at showcasing all of the show's characters and gets viewers pumped up for the episode. And the song perfectly describes Lorelai and Rory's relationship. Where one leads, the other will follow...
Who's Baby Is Rory Carrying?!
Gilmore Girls wrapped up with Rory choosing her career over an engagement. Logan wanted to settle down and have Rory travel with him for work but she didn't just get through four years at Yale not to become a journalist. She decided to go her own way and take a job reporting on the campaign trail.
In A Year In The Life, fans see that Rory is dating a random man she forgets about but is also still sleeping with Logan. To make matters worse, she's still in contact with Jess and had a one-night stand with a guy while she was traveling with her mom. By the end of the revival, Rory drops a bombshell: she's pregnant. So, not only do fans not know who she ends up with but they're also unsure of who the father of her unborn baby is!
Rory's Not Perfect
Rory has been told since she was a child that she was gifted and intelligent beyond measure. She was always destined for greatness and had the world in the palm of her hands. She was brilliant, of course, but she also had wealthy and well-connected grandparents who would get her out of trouble when she failed.
However, this kind of upbringing hindered Rory because the one time she received a bad review on her work, she threw her entire life away. Mr. Huntzberger simply told Rory that he didn't see her as a serious journalist because she never shared her personal views. This was enough to get Rory to steal a yacht, get arrested, and take time off from college... Okay, Rory.
Things Look Different From Up Here
Younger viewers can sympathize and connect with Rory throughout her journey on the show. Relationships are a big part of life when you're a teenager and sometimes that's all that can be focused on.
But as fans get older and re-watch the series, it's painfully evident that both Rory and Lorelai continue to make the same mistakes without learning from them — or each other. They refuse to take accountability and have no qualms about lying to get themselves out of a bad situation. It can be maddening!
