While he had a reputation for being uptight and moody, Scott Patterson's Gilmore Girls character did have a big heart. Luke Danes took care of the residents of Stars Hollow, although he might not admit that, and would actually get grumpy if anyone accused him of caring too much.

Luke had a sad life and that gave him empathy toward others, but it also made him a difficult person to be around at times. While Luke could make some frustrating decisions, he also was an important part of the small town he lived in and helped people when he could.

Annoying: His No Cell Phones Rule

Much of Gilmore Girls took place at Luke's Diner as Lorelai and Rory stopped by at least once a day. They got their muffins and donuts and, of course, coffee there, along with most of their food.

Luke was relaxed in some ways and high-strung in others. One annoying thing he did was put up a "no cell phones" sign in his diner. Sure, it made sense that he didn't want people sitting and chatting for hours, but this was definitely taking things a bit too far.

Sweetest: He Hired Lane At The Diner

In the fourth season, Luke agreed to hire Lane at the diner and she cared a lot about doing a good job.

Lane was often in episodes with Rory since they were best friends, so it was always nice to see her get her own storylines. Luke could seem mean at times, but he was always doing nice things for the people in town. He could never hear that someone close to him was struggling without doing something for them.

Annoying: He Wouldn't Propose To Lorelai

Everyone loves Luke and Lorelai. But when these characters got engaged, it was because Lorelai was the one who popped the question. Why wouldn't Luke propose to the woman he loved and promise her forever?

This was super frustrating, as Luke had been in love with Lorelai for so long and he should have appreciated the fact that they were finally together. He would act like he wanted to commit and then pull back in weird ways.

Sweetest: He Took Jess In When He Didn't Know Anything About Teenagers

Jess had a life of hardship and it made sense that he wasn't nice to Luke when he lived with him, but it was still tough to watch Jess treat Luke so badly.

When Luke was there for his sister Liz and let Jess stay with him, it was an incredibly sweet gesture. He also got really invested in Jess and did all that he could, although most of the time, it was dramatic and total chaos. Most people would have said no to this, especially if they didn't already have kids, but Luke often tried to do the right thing.

Annoying: He Became Too Jealous

It seems like some people are more prone to jealousy than others, but most of the time, if a relationship is happy and healthy, there's definitely no reason to feel envious of a third party.

Unfortunately, Luke became so jealous of Lorelai's relationship with Christopher that it caused many problems in their love story. This was annoying, as Lorelai was clearly with him, and the whole town knew how much Lorelai loved him.

Sweetest: He Let Taylor Open A Soda Shoppe

Taylor's Olde Fashion Soda Shoppe was right next door to Luke's diner, and Luke was cool with that, as he was the owner of the building and allowed Taylor to set it up.

Taylor was a huge part of Stars Hollow life and while Luke often got upset with him, the two were able to get along for a brief time, and it was really nice to see. Some people might tell Taylor that the old-fashioned shop was a bad idea and Luke's support was sweet.

Annoying: He Would Stubbornly Freeze Lorelai Out

Lorelai got involved in her fair share of mishaps and she never pretended to be a perfect human being, but she didn't deserve the way that Luke often behaved.

Whenever they had a fight or something to work out, Luke would totally freeze Lorelai out. His stubborn nature made him act this way, and while it might have been something that he wanted to change about himself, he kept behaving in an immature manner. It was definitely frustrating to watch and it was one of the most annoying things about this character.

Sweetest: He Made Lorelai A Chuppah For Her Wedding To Max

It was tough for Luke to watch Lorelai date Max and when she got engaged, he definitely was having a horrible time processing that news.

But while most people would stew and whine, Luke got busy working on a wedding gift. He built a chuppah out of wood for Lorelai and Max's wedding, and it was an incredibly kind thing to do. It was even sweeter because of the fact that he was in love with Lorelai. She was amazed at this present and it meant so much to her. This really proved that they were a special part of each other's lives.

Annoying: He Didn't Think Lorelai Could Understand His Daughter

April Nadini was a difficult character for fans to enjoy watching. Luke definitely mishandled the whole situation, which made things even worse.

Luke didn't think that Lorelai could understand his daughter or the fact that he was now deep in the world of parenting. This was one of the most annoying things that Luke ever did, as of course Lorelai knew how to help raise a girl, as she had a wonderful relationship with Rory.

Sweetest: He Let Lorelai Use His Truck To Move Rory Into Yale

It was a big deal for all of Stars Hollow when Rory went off to Yale, as she was definitely the golden child of the quirky and beautiful town.

Luke let Lorelai use his truck to help move Rory into her dorm room, and that was an incredibly selfless gesture on his part. Sure, Lorelai took forever, as she never really had any concept of time, but Luke was as patient as he could be.
