Lorelai is well-known for her caffeine tolerance, clever quips, and how much she loves her daughter Rory on Gilmore Girls. While Lorelai doesn't always want to approach a situation in the most adult manner, somehow her immature moments end up seeming hilarious and charming.

But while Lorelai was cool and relatable, she had many moments in the series when she sounded like a hypocrite. Whether talking to Rory, her best friend Sookie, her mother Emily, or even Luke, she often complained about something and then behaved just as badly. Just because she talks fast doesn't mean the audience misses all the hypocrisy coming out of her mouth.

She Yelled At Rory For Liking Dean When She Was Boy Crazy In High School

While it's true that Lorelai and Rory stayed close forever, their mother-daughter journey was sometimes bumpy, especially in the first season of the show.

When Rory met Dean, she felt an instant attraction, and she wasn't sure that she wanted to go to Chilton. Lorelai acted like a hypocrite because she insulted Rory for having a crush. She said, "If you're gonna throw your life away, he better have a motorcycle." This wasn't fair, and Lorelai should have been more understanding since she was boy crazy in high school and knew what it was like to be a teenager. Instead of being mean, Lorelai should have said that Rory could still go to Chilton and pursue a relationship with Dean.

She Made Fun Of Sookie's Single Life When She Was Often On Her Own

Lorelai poked fun at Sookie's single status, which not only was a horrible thing for a friend to do, but it made her a hypocrite.

While Sookie was on her own before falling in love with Jackson, Lorelai didn't have many long-term romances before she started to date Luke in season 5. Even her relationship with Max was fairly brief, as they got engaged quickly and she broke things off even faster. Lorelai was known as the cool single mom in Stars Hollow, and she spent a lot of time by herself.

She Acted Just Like Emily By Inviting Dean Over For Movie Night

In the season 1 episode "Rory's Birthday Parties," Rory was upset that Emily invited her Chilton class to a party without talking to her. She didn't even want a big fancy party in the first place, let alone one with people she didn't feel comfortable around.

Lorelai backed Rory up and agreed that it wasn't the right thing to do. However, she was a total hypocrite when, in the very next episode "Kiss and Tell," she invited Dean to their mother-daughter movie night. She didn't check in with Rory beforehand and she didn't realize that it would make Rory so nervous. It was strange that Lorelai would do exactly what her mother did.

She Wished She Could Communicate Better With Emily, Then Froze Rory Out When They Fought

After Lorelai had Rory in high school, she and her parents were barely in touch, and it was only with the Friday Night Dinners that they began getting together on a more frequent basis.

While Lorelai wished that she and her mom could communicate better and speak in a more casual manner, she was pretty hypocritical when she fought with Rory. She liked to freeze her out and would only start talking to her again when she felt like it. She did this in the first season when they fought over Dean and again in the sixth season when they stopped talking for a while.

She Hated That Christopher Wasn't There For Rory But Didn't Appreciate That Luke Was

While Rory and Jess had some romantic episodes, they also had some tough and stressful times.

In the season 2 episode "Teach Me Tonight," Rory and Jess were in a car accident, and Luke explained to Lorelai that he loved Rory. He said, "Hey, I am sorry about Rory. You know I care more about her than I do myself, but at least you know where Rory is and at least you know that she’s okay. Now, I have to find Jess and I have to make sure that he’s okay, and if that cuts into your screaming time, well that’s just too d*mn bad!" Lorelai hated that Rory's dad wasn't a real parental figure, but she didn't even react when Luke said how much he cared about Rory. It seemed strange that she didn't appreciate him more.

She Hated Asking Her Parents For Money But Asked Luke, No Problem

Luke gave Lorelai $30,000 so she could open her dream inn, and she had no problem at all with that; she even asked him for the money hersel.

That was definitely a massive sum, but Lorelai didn't mind mixing friendship and business. This seemed odd since she had such trouble asking her parents for money. Emily and Richard were more than happy to be involved in Lorelai's life and they wanted to help whenever they could. In fact, fans could argue that the only true way they could have a relationship with their daughter was when money was involved. Why was Lorelai hesitant to talk to her parents when she was in financial trouble, but she didn't mind asking Luke for thousands of dollars?

She Got Mad At Rory For Hiding Things, Then Secretly Married Christopher

In season 1 of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai was upset that Rory hid her crush on Dean. She was also mad when Dean kissed Rory and Rory didn't tell her right away.

If Lorelai was angry and hurt that Rory kept things about her love life secret, why would she marry Christopher without talking to Rory about it first? This was another example of when Lorelai behaved in a strange and hypocritical manner.

She Was The Black Sheep Of Her Family, Then Saw Jess As A "Bad" Kid

Although there are some clear problems with Jess's character, he was still a big part of Gilmore Girls and he and Rory had a meaningful relationship.

Lorelai was fairly hypocritical when Jess came to Stars Hollow, though. It seemed like she would have been able to relate to him since, like him, she was a rebellious teenager who was considered the black sheep of her family. She didn't fit in with her wealthy parents or their world. But instead of being kind to Jess, Lorelai didn't trust him and acted like he was going to ruin Rory's life.

Everyone Judged Her For Getting Pregnant In High School Yet She Judged Paris

Sometimes Gilmore Girls acted a little strange about characters having sex. In the third season, Lorelai judged Paris for sleeping with Jamie and even said, "I've got the good kid" because Rory was still a virgin.

This was incredibly hypocritical. Lorelai hated how everyone treated her like she had done something to be ashamed of when she got pregnant with Rory at 16. But instead of understanding that Paris made a natural decision to move things forward with a serious partner, she was mean about it.

She Wanted To Marry Luke More Than Anything, Then Messed It Up

Lorelai hated when Luke postponed their wedding in order to get to know his daughter, April.

Then, at the end of season 6, Lorelai slept with Christopher. If she loved Luke so much and wanted to be with him forever, why would she do that? It didn't make much sense, and things went from bad to worse when, in the season 7 premiere, Luke wanted to get married and Lorelai confessed what she had done. It was hypocritical that Lorelai would blame Luke for ruining their wedding plans and then do the exact same thing.
