Some of the charm and nostalgia of watching Gilmore Girls lies in the fact that it's a show from the early 2000s. Rory and Lorelai don't have iPhones in the original series, and they definitely don't post what they're eating for breakfast on Instagram or post Snapchat stories about what's going on in their lives.

Fans love watching Lorelai and Rory's relationship, and, if Gilmore Girls were still in production today, Lorelai would do a lot of things much differently. It's fun to imagine how this beloved character's life would change if she had access to technology from roughly two decades in the future.

She Would Have Tried Online Dating

Lorelai has many love interests, and she mostly meets people in her town or nearby. She meets Max since he's Rory's English teacher at Chilton, she dates Jason after meeting him through her father, and, of course, she has been friends with diner owner Luke for years.

However, it seems likely that she would try online dating and download at least one app. Sure, she would already know everyone in Stars Hollow, but she could broaden her reach and search in nearby towns and cities.

The Dragonfly Inn Would Have A Social Media Director

Many funny and dramatic moments happened at the Dragonfly Inn, and it was Sookie and Lorelai's passion project. While people who enjoyed staying at quaint inns knew about it, no one talked about having a social media presence since the show aired in the early 2000s.

If Lorelai was running this business now, it seems like she would hire someone to be in charge of social media, from Facebook to Twitter to Instagram. They would be a smart and interesting social media director who would make sure that more people heard about the inn.

She Could Take An Online Business Course

Lorelai graduates from business school at the end of season two, and she loves being able to celebrate this achievement.

Lorelai drove over to Hartford to take the class in person, but, with the wide availability of online education today, it seems like she would take an online course now. It would be much more convenient for her, and she would have an easier time balancing her job with her coursework.

She Would Want To Travel For Work

In the fifth season of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai got a great opportunity: the Durham Group wanted to buy the Dragonfly Inn. This meant that Lorelai could travel for business on a regular basis.

Lorelai declined, but it seems like, if the show aired today, she would be more interested in getting the chance to travel. Many people are interested in having more flexible schedules, as they love having the freedom to travel while still being able to work.

She Would Have Looked Rachel Up On Facebook

When Luke's ex-girlfriend Rachel came back to Stars Hollow, Lorelai hadn't heard of her. She was caught up in the story of how they fell in love and how Rachel, a photographer who valued freedom, didn't want to live a small-town lifestyle.

But, if the series was airing in 2021, wouldn't Lorelai have known about Rachel—and wouldn't she have looked her up on Facebook and also Googled her to find out more about her?

She Would Have Every Possible Streaming Service

In the Netflix revival A Year In The Life, Lorelai has a DVR that she loves, and she constantly watches cheesy and/or dark Lifetime movies, much to Luke's chagrin. While it makes sense that this character would love her DVR since she's a pop culture junkie, what about streaming services?

If the original series aired today, it seems like Lorelai would have every possible streaming service, from Netflix to Hulu, Amazon to Peacock. Lorelai and Rory are known for their movie nights, and Lorelai would love all of the content that's available now. She would also become obsessed with the TV shows that everyone is talking about, from Mare Of Easttown to Girls5eva.

Her Pop Culture References Would Include TikTok

Lorelai is famous for her pop culture references, and she also says them super fast. She even talks about the world of celebrities, movies, TV, and music when something important is going on, like when Rory is heartbroken over Dean and Lorelai says that, if Taylor Hanson confesses his love for Rory, she should be able to confess her feelings.

Lorelai would reference TikTok on a regular basis today, as the platform has become super popular, and she would be endlessly fascinated by what people post. She might even try out some of the dances.

She Would Teach Emily About The World Of Instagram

If Gilmore Girls aired in 2021, Emily would hear about Instagram and be really interested in how popular it is. She would ask Lorelai about it enough times that Lorelai would finally agree to help her learn more about it.

Emily is a fan of all things fancy and sophisticated, so it would be funny to see her explore Instagram. Emily would enjoy posting photos during her travels, and Lorelai and Emily would have a hilarious exchange about how to use hashtags.

She Would Look Up Inns On Her iPhone

Rory and Lorelai are in a truck driving in Gilmore Girls.

In the season two episode "The Road Trip To Harvard," Rory and Lorelai end up staying at a quirky and strange inn after stumbling upon it. They feel so awkward around the other guests that they make up stories about who they are and even skip dinner, as they don't want to make small talk with everyone waiting downstairs.

If this episode aired now, it seems likely that Lorelai would look up places to stay on her iPhone, and she would be able to pick a place that suits her and Rory better.

She Could Promote A Lunch Special Online

Lorelai and Sookie in the

Sookie and Lorelai decide to give up lunch at the Dragonfly Inn, as it doesn't seem to be going very well, and Lorelai has to save some money.

Lorelai could turn this around today by promoting a lunch special online, both on the inn's website and on their social media accounts. This would draw in more customers and solve that problem, making more people realize that it's the perfect place to grab a meal mid-day or have a business meeting that includes some delicious food.
