In the second season of Gilmore Girls, viewers learned about Luke's wild sister Liz and her son, Jess. As kids, Liz and Luke didn't get along well because of Liz's troublesome teenage years but things cooled off by the time they were adults. In season 2, Liz's son Jess went to live with Luke when she was having trouble raising him as a single mom.

By season 4, Liz finally made an appearance and didn't seem like the disheveled girl Luke described her as. She was goofy and free-spirited but not the pot-smoking teen Luke made her out to be. Liz loved being back in Stars Hollow so much that she and her new boyfriend (soon-to-be husband) moved back, which started the beginning of new storylines for characters like Luke and Lorelai.

Best: Their Relationship With Lorelai

Lorelai and Liz hit it off as soon as they met. At first, Liz thought Lorelai was Nicole because she looked like Luke's type and heard about his relationship. After clearing the confusion, Liz knew right away that there was a bond between Lorelai and Luke.

But regardless of their unspoken love, Liz and Lorelai got along well. Lorelai even got along with TJ, she just didn't appreciate his fake contracting skills.

Worst: She Pushed Jess On Luke

In a shocking twist, Luke was now the guardian of his troubled, teenaged nephew. Even though Luke was never fond of kids and had no experience with them, Liz thought it was the best thing to send her son to her brother's place.

Shipping her son off to her brother's house because she was at a loss was a lot to take on for both Luke and Jess. It was a selfish act of hers that she didn't find flaws in. To make matters worse, TJ tried pushing a relationship on Jess before Jess was ready.

Best: Liz Was An Open Ear For Luke

Liz had her annoying moments but when Luke really needed her, she was there for him. After hearing that he potentially had a daughter, Liz was the first person he told. Instead of going to his best friend and fiance, Lorelai, he went to his sister.

And adorably, Liz handled the news well. She was surprised by it but was calm in her reaction. She knew Luke was freaked out and she wanted him to see the good in having an unexpected daughter. This was one of their closest moments on the show.

Worst: TJ Was A Horrible Contractor

When Liz and TJ became permanent members of Stars Hollow, Liz practically forced TJ down Luke's throat. TJ was (apparently) a contractor and could use some work. Luke agreed to hire TJ for the renovation of Lorelai's house but it didn't take long for Luke to realize that TJ had no idea what he was doing.

Luke had to take control of the project and give TJ easy jobs just so he didn't mess anything up. He was a bigger headache than Luke and Lorelai needed.

Best: Their Wedding Was Unique

As quirky and unique as TJ and Liz are, Luke couldn't deny their connection. Their spur-of-the-moment wedding was also a shock to Luke but at the end of the day, their wedding was perfectly tailored to them.

The renaissance theme was endearing and true to them. That lifestyle was a part of them and it was sweet that they made it a part of their union.

Worst: They Moved In With Luke Without Asking

When things go wrong in Liz and TJ's new home, they moved in with Luke until the problem was resolved. The problem is that they had a newborn and didn't even give Luke a respectful amount of time to respond or get things ready.

Luke's studio apartment is very small and was barely big enough for him and Jess. With TJ, Liz, and Doula moving in, there was barely any room to even think. Liz and TJ took advantage of Luke's kindness and it paid a toll on him.

Best: Luke Finally Had Family Nearby

With Luke's father and uncle gone, Luke was the last family member standing in Stars Hollow. Sure, he had the community that he made his family but it hits different when there are people around that are actual relatives.

When Liz decided to move back to Stars Hollow, Luke was annoyed to have her and TJ so close but it ended up being a good thing. He got to know his sister better and he adored taking care of their daughter Doula once he had April in his life.

Worst: They Put His Boat Up For Sale Without His Permission

When Luke and Lorelai started their relationship, she (along with the viewers) found out about Luke's troubles with coping with his father's death. His father's boat in particular meant a lot to Luke and he had a hard time departing with it.

Unbeknownst to Luke, Liz tried selling the prized boat to make room in the garage. She figured since Luke never took the boat out, there was no sense in keeping it. Selling something so precious to Luke without talking about it first was beyond cruel.

Best: They Were Good Opposing Forces To Luke

Luke is a man who is set in his ways. He's not a fan of change or the moderation of time but he treats those he loves with respect and care. It takes Luke time to open up but when he does he's someone everyone can rely on.

Liz and TJ are complete opposites compared to Luke. With them around so much, it helped Luke loosen up and learn how to deal with difficult people.

Worst: Luke Helped Them For Weeks When They Were In An Accident

Within hours of Luke and Lorelai kissing for the first time and declaring their feelings for each other, Luke had to make an emergency call to Liz and TJ who were in an accident while on their Reenisance tour. Luke didn't just help out for a day or two, he was there for weeks.

And sadly, he was so helpful that TJ and Liz took advantage of him and used him as free help. Luke eventually saw what was going on and left them to focus on his own business and love life.
