Gilmore Girls is a staple of everyday life for a lot of the show's fans. The series offers a certain coziness and familiarity that is hard to find in other dramas. Lorelai and Rory have a unique mother-daughter relationship, and their friends and family help them through every phase of life.

The major characters are important in the big events of the series, but the secondary characters give the show an added layer of charm and depth. Stars Hollow is full of peculiar individuals, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Ranked from least to most intelligent, here they are!

Caesar

Rory and Caesar at Luke's Diner in Gilmore Girls

Caesar is pretty smart in his work with Luke Danes at the diner, but he doesn't get too many lines. The character is an enigma ever since fans realized that he was dancing in the background at Chilton in the first season.

Aris Alvarado, the actor who played Caesar, confirmed that he did dance at Chilton near Rory and Dean. This is a little odd, and Caesar is most likely a smart guy if he got into Chilton. Fans aren't sure, though.

Jackson Belleville

Jackson talks to Sookie in their home.

Jackson Belleville knows his craft. He is the perfect produce man, and he knows the way to Sookie's heart is through great tomatoes. Jackson is no oaf, but he doesn't always think before he speaks, and he and Sookie cancel each other out from time to time. Jackson means well, but he isn't necessarily the brightest bulb in the box.

Babette

Miss Patty and Babette sitting at a table at Luke's diner on Gilmore Girls

Babette is a boisterous but beautiful voice calling through the town square. She shows Stars Hollow spirit in every way possible, relishing the seasons and taking advantage of every conversation with her friends. As nice as Babette is, she isn't always too thoughtful as she spreads everyone's news without their permission. Babette and Miss Patty love to theorize about Lorelai's love life, and it gets a little old.

Kirk

Gilmore Girls Kirk

Kirk Gleason does all of Taylor Doose's dirty work. The man might live with his mother and struggle in his other relationships, but no one has had more careers than this guy. Like Taylor, Kirk's plans might go awry. However, Kirk talks so much that viewers can see the way he ponders every detail of life. No one thinks through everything quite like Kirk does, and good for him for trying his hand at anything he dreams up!

Town Troubadour

The Town Troubadour performing on Gilmore Girls

The Town Troubadour has it all figured out, or so it seems. He stands on the corner of the square and strums and hums the songs of his heart. There's no way to know exactly what the Troubadour is thinking, except for during that episode where someone else tries to take his job. Musicians are intelligent beings, but no one can say what's going on in the mind of this nomadic musician.

Mrs. Kim

Mrs. Kim is a savvy businesswoman, driving a hard bargain at Kim's Antiques day in and day out. Mrs. Kim definitely has a strong understanding of her profession, but she doesn't think practically about the needs of her daughter, Lane. The mom sees everything through religious terms and doesn't allow her teenage daughter the freedom to become her own person and ask questions of faith and life in her own way.

Miss Patty

Miss Patty peeking through a half-opened door in Gilmore Girls

Miss Patty might gossip right along with Babette, but she has a certain way about her that seems to rise above some of the chatter. The dance teacher keeps a strong beat going throughout the square with creative performances, guaranteed for major town festivals.

Miss Patty has an oddly poetic way of speaking about her life experiences, confirming that she is actually a deep thinker.

Gypsy

Gypsy on Gilmore Girls and Berta talking to Lorelai on Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life

Gypsy keeps the motor of Stars Hollow going, literally. The woman is a skilled mechanic with a keen understanding of all kinds of old and run-down cars. Fans don't know everything about Gypsy, but she gives her fellow town citizens a run for their money and makes it clear that she knows exactly what she is talking about at all times. Technically, Rose Abdoo plays Gypsy in the show and revival but also doubles as Berta the maid in the revival--perhaps she is living a double life!

Michel Gerard

Michel smiles while at the Dragonfly's kitchen in Gilmore-Girls

Michel Gerard must have a sixth sense. He knows everything about everything, especially as it pertains to the successful operation of his desk at The Dragonfly Inn. Michel has a snappy wit that keeps everybody on their toes, and he is the perfect counterpart to Lorelai's quick tongue and ever-flowing stream of ideas.

Taylor Doose

Taylor in his ice cream shop costume on Gilmore Girls

Taylor Doose is the mastermind of Stars Hollow, even if many of his grand plans are poorly designed and more poorly executed. The man is responsible for changing the street names to nasty phrases like "Sores and Boils Alley." He curates a twisted carousel of progress and schemes with the help of Kirk, his minion. Some would say that Taylor means well; some would say that he has his own best interests at heart. He's definitely an intelligent character.
