During this cold and sometimes dreary time of year, Gilmore Girls is one of the best shows to cozy up to in a comfy seat and a warm drink. This show has some heartwarming family moments and is a perfect, unique coming-of-age story.

Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are the stars of the show. However, dedicated fans of the series aren't always pleased with the way these two women present themselves. Though Lorelai is one of the most interesting characters, there are some episodes in the series in which fans couldn't stand her and hated her actions.

The Dean And Rory Breakup

"P.S: I Lo..." (Season 1, Episode 20)

Gilmore Girls Rory and Dean Reading on a beanbag at Miss Patty's in, "Rory's Dance."

This episode actually takes place several after the one in which Rory and Dean go through their first breakup. However, Lorelai tends to lose her temper with people when she is feeling overwhelmed. In this case, Rory and she had gotten into a fight, driving her to take some of her rages out on Dean.

While this is pretty typical of Lorelai, the audience was annoyed she chose to take her anger out on a teenage boy. Reddit user team-tiki said, "she goes off on Dean in the grocery store after the first break up without even knowing why they broke up and calling a 16 y/o scum." Fans didn't appreciate her choice of words, especially since she didn't know the whole story.

Running Away From Her Own Wedding

"The Road Trip To Harvard" (Season 2, Episode 4)

Rory and Lorelai visit Harvard on Gilmore Girls

Lorelai has an on-and-off relationship with one of Rory's high school teachers Max Medina before they eventually become engaged. However, the night before the wedding she calls it all off and runs away with Rory on a road trip.

Reddit user Corneliusdenise said, "I did like the Harvard tour. But this whole episode I was like...consider your daughter, your family and your friends." As this Redditor points out, there were some good aspects of this episode. However, fans also hated that she left without informing any of her guests and gets angry with Rory when she reasonably wants to know why Lorelai made this decision.

Rory Applying To Yale

"A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving" (Season 3, Episode 9)

Gilmore Girls Lorelai, Richard, Rory, and Emily around table in, "Friday Night's Alright For Fighting."

One opinion about Gilmore Girls worth fighting over is whether Rory always wanted to go to Harvard or if that was really Lorelai's dream for her daughter. Regardless, Lorelai clearly wanted it as badly as Rory, proven when she gets upset when Rory admits she applied to other Ivy League schools.

Lorelai is convinced that Rory was pressured by her parents to apply to Yale. However, as Redditor blaugrana2020 pointed out, "she must know that you can’t only apply to one school." Some fans thought her anger was completely unjustified and just another way for her to quarrel with her parents.

The "Almost Mommy" Line

"Ted Koppel's Big Night Out" (Season 4, Episode 9)

The Gilmore family at the Harvard Yale game in Gilmore Girls

One of the most cringeworthy parts of Gilmore Girls is the Pennilynn Lott plot line, in which Emily finds out Richard has been having a platonic relationship with his college girlfriend. One of the most obnoxious parts of this storyline is when Lorelai meets Pennilynn and calls her "almost mommy".

Reddit user Roux319 said, "That whole exchange with Lorelai and pennilyn Lott is so cringeworthy" and goes on to suggest Lorelai was being extremely immature. While Lorelai and Emily don't have the best mother/daughter relationship, many fans consider this a particularly low blow.

Lets Rory Lie For Her

"Women Of Questionable Morals" (Season 5, Episode 11)

Lorelai and Luke standing out in the show on Gilmore Girls

Fans of the series were excited for Lorelai and Luke to finally be in a committed relationship at this point. However, they don't go about it in the right way sometimes, with each of them keeping some significant secrets.

In this episode, Rory lies about Lorelai being sick, when she really has a hangover from spending the night with Christopher after his father dies. Reddit user huffgil11 said, "she was going to tell him...While that makes it more awkward than it has to be, just explain it." Though some blame can be put on Rory in this situation, fans were outraged Lorelai wasn't just honest and cleared the situation up.

Messing With The Seating Chart

"Wedding Blue Bells" (Season 5, Episode 13)

Emily and Richard Gilmore dancing at their vow renewal in Gilmore Girls.

Lorelai and Emily has a realistic relationship in this show, portraying a mother and daughter that have never been able to get along. However, they both have a tendency to take things too far.

Before Emily and Richard's vow renewal, Lorelai messes with their seating chart. While this seems like a little thing, Reddit user FlyOnTheWall221 makes a point that "she doesn’t even tell her mom and let the poor planner lose her job!" These little moments annoy fans and make Lorelai seem particularly selfish, not considering how her decisions affect other people.

Rory Taking A Gap Year

"A House Is Not A Home" (Season 5, Episode 22)

Rory and Lorelai laughing at Yale in Gilmore Girls

The feud between Rory and Lorelai after Rory decides to take time off of Yale lasts several episodes and a few months. Fans seem split on who was actually in the wrong in this situation, but many fans agree Lorelai didn't handle it in the best way.

Reddit user miasmicivyphsyc points out, "the entire time Rory had taken a gap semester off Yale...Lorelai acted like such an immature spiteful child." These fans also point out that it's common for college students to take a gap year and, while it's not what Lorelai wanted for her daughter, her reaction was over-the-top and inconsiderate.

The Baptism

"Always A Godmother, Never A God" (Season 6, Episode 4)

Reddit user amandaIorian said, "that's a whole different level of rude, grating and self absorption. That's a good (bad) one."

Her Wedding Toast

"I Get A Sidekick Out Of You" (Season 6, Episode 19)

Rory and Chris pull Lorelai off the stage at Lane's wedding in Gilmore Girls.

While many fans think Lane's worst decision was marrying so young, that doesn't mean she didn't deserve a happy, upbeat wedding celebration. In this episode, Lorelai is so upset over her deteriorating relationship with Luke that, in her drunken state, she makes a poor decision.

Reddit user laufschlag said, "I don’t think anything can top her toast at lanes wedding" and many other fans agree, considering this speech about her failing relationship to be particularly outrageous. Though this can be justified due to her emotional state, these fans hated that Lorelai had to make this event about her.

She's Jealous While In A Relationship

"Driving Miss Gilmore" (Season 6, Episode 21)

Lorelai and Luke talk outside of Emily and Richard's house on Gilmore Girls

In this episode, Lorelai is driving Emily around after a lasik eye surgery. When Emily starts mentioning all the women she thinks would be a great match for Christopher, Lorelai is especially hostile and appears to be jealous at the prospect of Chris dating.

Reddit user leeloodallas502 points out, "Lorelai argues with her about every single one that Emily brings up, like she has secret dibs on Christopher if something happens with Luke." Considering Lorelai was still in a relationship with Luke, fans hated that she was angry over her ex dating, suggesting she wants him as a backup in case her current relationship doesn't work out.
