Gilmore Girls may be popular because of the mother/daughter relationship at its core, but there are many romantic relationships that are worth taking a look at. Both Rory and her cool mom Lorelai have very dramatic and interesting love lives. Since the show lasted for seven seasons, that gave the show the opportunity to tell many different love stories.

Besides coffee and donuts and candy and pizza (we could go on), love is also in the air in Stars Hollow. Who are the best and worst couples on Gilmore Girls? It's time to take a look. Here are the couples on this charming drama, ranked from worst to best.

8. Rory And Logan

Alexis Bledel as Rory and Matt Czuchry as Logan in Gilmore Girls

While there are Gilmore Girls fans who are on Team Logan, he's not actually a great boyfriend. He's good-looking and it's clear that he has gotten by on his looks and charm for his entire life. It also helps that his family is so rich that he can do anything that he wants.

Rory and Logan meet at Yale and date for a while, and they also have a more casual situation in the Netflix revival A Year In The Life. Rory should be with someone who is more on her level and who works as hard as she does. Their relationship is mostly rocky, and Rory is such a secure, take charge kind of person that it doesn't make sense that she would be so interested in Logan.

7. Rory And Jess

Many Gilmore Girls fans wish that they could date Jess Mariano (and/or the actor who portrays him, Milo Ventimiglia). Unfortunately, if anyone rewatches this series (and most fans have gone through the entire seven seasons multiple times), they will notice that Jess isn't the right love interest for Rory.

Rory and Jess never seem like they're on the same page about the future. While Rory has her college dreams nailed down, Jess is smart but he doesn't seem to be interested in going to high school, let alone higher education. Sure, he's cute and he's got a mysterious, bad boy vibe about him, but he doesn't seem like Rory's soulmate. It's tough to picture Rory with an angry young man, honestly.

6. Max And Lorelai

Lorelai Dating Max Medina

True Gilmore Girls fans know that no matter how much Max and Lorelai like each other, they don't belong together. Everyone knows who Lorelai is meant to be with forever (more on that soon).

Max and Lorelai are number six on this list because even though no one could say they have zero chemistry (they're actually super into each other), their relationship is too awkward for Rory. Since Max is her English teacher and she's trying to make a good impression on both the teachers and students at her new school, it just seems like a bad idea. Lorelai literally runs away after she's supposed to marry Max, which proves that these two aren't made for each other. Their engagement is weird, too, as she doesn't even tell very many people about it, and it never feels like they will actually get married.

5. Sookie And Jackson

When Sookie St. James and Jackson Belleville start dating, it's definitely a long time coming. Fans know that from the moment we first see Jackson bringing Sookie fruit and vegetables that she rejects, these characters are meant to be together. Of course, they face many obstacles and it takes them a while to get over their shyness and finally admit that they have feelings for each other.

Because Sookie and Jackson aren't one of the iconic couples of the show, they couldn't be higher up on the list. But they're still adorable and compliment each other perfectly, which is why they're number five here. Their one flaw? They're so worried about upsetting each other or saying the wrong thing that they always seem a bit nervous around each other.

4. Rory And Dean

Sorry to everyone on Team Logan and Team Jess. But the truth is that Rory and Dean are a much better couple and that's why they're number four on this list.

Rory experiences so many firsts with Dean: her first kiss, relationship, and even school dance. She starts becoming a more confident person since she is with someone who believes in her and loves that she's a super smart bookworm. Even though some fans might say that Dean isn't good enough for Rory, it's definitely good to remember that he's the one who says that he loves her... and she freaks out and they break up. Although they aren't the number one best couple on Gilmore Girls, they're still adorable and a perfect portrayal of first love.

3. Lane And Zack

Who could forget Lane Kim and Zack Van Gerbig? They are the most rock and roll couple around, and because they actually end up together, that makes them one of the best couples in Stars Hollow. They're sitting at number three on this list.

Lane makes her high school musical dreams come true when she starts playing drums in a band. Thankfully, Zack is one of the other band members, and although she falls for Dave Rygalski first (played by Adam Brody which is fun), she eventually sees that she's supposed to be with Zack. As a couple, they encounter some hilarious mishaps, like their awkward honeymoon, but they do live happily ever after with adorable twins.

2. Emily And Richard

Emily And Richard Separating

Emily and Richard Gilmore are truly in love. They are a testament to true love because they have been married for so long. Sure, they go through some ups and downs and even take some time apart, but that just proves that real love isn't always smooth and perfect.

Emily and Richard are one of the best couples on this show, which puts them in the number two spot. Their witty banter is one for the ages. It's honestly just as good as the banter between Lorelai and Rory, Lorelai and Luke, and anyone else who Lorelai talks to. It's heartbreaking to learn that Richard is gone by the time that the revival begins, and fans miss him.

1. Luke And Lorelai

Here we are at number one on this list: Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore. Of course they are the number one couple from the gang living in Stars Hollow. Who else could it be?!

There is something special about these two. Luke always cares about Lorelai and wants to help her in any way that he can. He even brings ice to Rory's amazing sixteenth birthday party, which seems like a tiny gesture but actually means a lot. Since this is a TV show, Luke and Lorelai fall in love but go through a lot throughout the years, and they even split up for a while. But fans know that they're going to get married someday. Thankfully, Netflix made that come true and the two tied the knot (in the most magical way possible) in the fourth installment.
