From the very first episode of Gilmore Girls, it seems obvious that Lorelai is meant to be with Luke, and finally, in the revival, they actually tie the knot. Before that, though, the two go through some serious ups and downs, and there are some other contenders for Lorelai's heart - although none more serious than Christopher.

Lorelai's first love and Rory's father, Christopher will always be a huge part of their lives, but for a while, it seems like he and Lorelai could even end up together. And for good reason - as these episodes prove, in many ways they are the absolute perfect pair. Unlike Luke, Christopher fits into every part of her life, has known her since childhood, and is connected to her in a way that no one else could be - and she will always turn to him.

Christopher Returns (Season 1, Ep15)

Christopher technically first appears in the episode before this one, 'That Damn Donna Reed', where he rolls up on his bike. However, it is 'Christopher Returns' that really introduces him to the fans, and shows everyone how deep his relationship with Lorelai truly is. In this episode, they have an obvious, immediate connection, and at her parents' house, it's clear how much they still want these two to get together. When Lorelai and Christopher escape their parents to her balcony, and end up having sex there, it's clear that there's also a part of them that wants things to resume, too.

Presenting Lorelai Gilmore (Season 2, Ep 6)

Christopher and Rory at the debutante ball

This debutante episode is largely focused on Rory, who decides that she would like to have the debutante experience, much to her mother's horror. However, this episode is a great one for showcasing how perfectly Christopher fits into Lorelai's world. As much as she would like to pretend that she is nothing like her parents, she was raised in a level of society that has debutante balls - and Christopher understands how to navigate it perfectly.

I Can't Get Started (Season 2, Ep 22)

If things had gone differently, this could have been the episode that Lorelai and Christopher got together - and if that had happened here, they would probably have worked. After seeing how much more responsible Christopher has become, and how much there still is between them, Lorelai and Christopher sleep together here, the night before Sookie's wedding.

Sadly, it all goes horribly wrong when Christopher's ex calls him to tell him she is pregnant, and he decides he can't leave another pregnant woman, but for a moment, fans could see just how good these two could be.

Dear Emily And Richard (Season 3, Ep 13)

Chris and Lorelai when they're teenagers in Gilmore Girls

This is one of the biggest Lorelai/Christopher episodes of the entire series, as fans get to see the start of their story in flashback form. And while Christopher isn't exactly enthusiastic about the idea of marrying Lorelai as a teen, there's a lot here to grant them soulmate status. From their hopes and dreams for the future to their similar reaction to the way that they were raised, these two are adorable, right from the start - and they have always been on the same page.

Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant (Season 5, Episode 6)

Norman Mailer and Sookie at the Dragonfly Inn on Gilmore Girls

While Lorelai and Christopher are definitely not together at this point, this is an episode that just shows how much they will always mean to each other, and how they will always be there to help out - which is key soulmate material. In this episode, Sherry has left Christopher, and left their baby daughter Gigi with him, too. Christopher is totally overwhelmed, and Lorelai rushes over to help out, encouraging him, giving him tips, and generally acting like someone who loves him.

Women Of Questionable Morals (Season 5, Ep 11)

Christopher looks upset in the kitchen on Gilmore Girls

Like 'Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant', this episode sees Lorelai go to Christopher - even though they are not in a great place. When she finds out that his father has died, she knows that whatever is going on with them, she needs to be there for him, and heads over to spend the night getting drunk, reminiscing, and supporting him. Once again, they show that no matter what, they are always going to be there for each other.

He's Slippin' Em Bread, Dig? (Season 6, Episode 10)

Lorelai and Christopher are still not in a good place here, but he returns after an absence with a stack of cash - and an offer to help put Rory through school.

In some ways, this might just be seen as 'about time', given that Lorelai supported Rory for her entire childhood, but it does also show that even if Christopher wasn't around when they were younger, he is ready to step up now. And when he has the opportunity to support them, it is the first thing on his mind.

Partings (Season 6 Finale)

loreali slept with chris - gilmore girls

This is a sad episode for fans of Luke and Lorelai, but one that rekindles the relationship with Christopher - or at least, one that proves there is something there to rekindle. Lorelai and Luke have a fight after Luke won't marry Lorelai - and while he changes his mind the next day, she has already slept with Christopher, because she ran to him the moment she left Luke. If nothing else, this proves that when things are rough, Lorelai turns to Christopher, without even thinking about it.

'S Wonderful 'S Marvelous (Season 7, Ep 4)

lorelai and chris at the drive in - gilmore girls

Christopher shows just how perfectly he understands Lorelai in this episode, when they go on a date - and he has set up a private drive in movie, projecting a special film onto the wall of a barn for her. This is perfect for Lorelai, and the effort and personal touches show just how well they know each other. More than that, though, when they end up having to go bail out her mother (!) his reactions prove how well he knows her family, too.

French Twist (Season 7, Ep 7)

Chris and Lorelai at dinner in Paris on Gilmore Girls

While Lorelai and Christopher have a relationship that continues beyond this episode, this one may be the peak perfection for the couple. Here, the two are in Paris, and the entire episode is basically a series of incredibly romantic moments where the two are in perfect sync. Of course, romance doesn't always equal soulmate, but given how well Christopher can anticipate what Lorelai is going to want, his attitude when taking care of her, and their excitement about being together - not to mention their ability to deal with hunger and jetlag without snapping at each other - is a joy to behold.
