Ask anyone what television show defined the 2000s, and most will say Gilmore Girls. The WB series that kicked off the 21st century was one of the top shows on the network during its seven-season run. Gilmore Girls followed the relationship of a single mother and her daughter in a fictional Connecticut town, and the series tone was ripe for producing special holiday-centrist storylines.

With the holidays coming up -- and most people staying home -- what would Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, along with Emily Gilmore and Luke Danes and the other main characters, watch to get them in the mood to be jolly for Christmas?

Lorelai Gilmore: Love Actually

Love Actually Billy Mack Slytherin

Lorelai Gilmore had a deep love affair with pop culture and coffee. So it would be natural to see her cozy up in her best Christmas pajamas and turn on Love Actually, the 2003 rom-com starring Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon.

Love Actually centers on eight couples who had different takes on dealing with their relationships the month before Christmas. Lorelai would have loved this movie, and one could see her own it on DVD (which was a thing back then for you youngsters) and popping it during the holidays.

Rory Gilmore: It's A Wonderful Life

It's A Wonderful Life

Rory was a driven young woman, but she would also go for the occasional romantic film just like her mother. One could see Rory watching It's A Wonderful Life to get her in the Christmas mood.

One of the classic holiday films of all-time, It's A Wonderful Life tells the classic tale of an angel who helps a businessman by showing him what life would be if he didn't exist. Rory would be into a film like this, especially given the nature of her character.

Emily Gilmore: Miracle On 34th Street (1994)

Emily Gilmore was the matriarch of the family and was very in tune with high society. With her character, one would believe that Emily would be into classic holiday movies such as Miracle On 34th Street.

,Miracle On 34th Street is one of the most quintessential holiday films of all-time. Fighting for the right for Santa Clause to be Santa, this movie would be the perfect film for the Gilmore matriarch.

Luke Danes: Scrooged

Scrooged

He's kind-hearted and lovable, but Luke Danes, who owned the diner in the series, is a bit of a grouch. This calls for some holiday movie magic, and no movie personifies this more than Scrooged.

An 80s remake of the classic holiday story, Scrooged tells the story of a cynical man who is taught a lesson on Christmas Eve by three spirits. Once Luke sees this film, this could get him in the holiday spirit?

Richard Gilmore: Trading Places

Coleman & The Dukes Trading Places

A bright man, Richard Gilmore, the patriarch of the Gilmore family, could easily get into Trading Places, one of the most underrated holiday films ever made.

One could see Mr. Gilmore watching Trading Places over more traditional holiday films, maybe seeing himself as a real-life version of Louis Winthorpe III, who became an unwitting player in a social experiment by the Duke brothers.

Lane Kim: Krampus

Lane Kim, who was Rory's best friend in the series, didn't like living the straight-laced, religious life her mother wanted her to live. So one can easily see her defying mom by watching the anti-holiday film, Krampus.

Coming out in 2015, Krampus is a holiday horror film that could very well be right up Kane's ally, bringing holiday cheer to her while horrifying her mother, who would surely try to ban this film from her house.

Sookie St. James: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Chirpy and lively, Sookie St. James is the best friend of Lorelai and is also the co-owner of the inn. With her eccentric personality, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation could be on her holiday watchlist.

A classic holiday comedy, the film is a laugh-out-loud hit that can be watched either solo or with the family. In fact, one could see Sookie and Lorelai watching together on a night in from the bitterly cold New England winter.

Jess Mariano: Die Hard

Becoming one of the main characters in season two, Jess Mariano and Rory had a brief, but intense relationship. His troubled nature is what makes Die Hard such a great holiday film for the bad boy.

Many will dispute to this very day over whether or not Die Hard is a true holiday film, but that wouldn't matter to Jess, who would pop on this movie and watch John McClain kill the terrorists in a heartbeat.

Dean Forester: Home Alone

Home Alone White Christmas

The first love interest of Rory, Dean Forester is a charming guy who could get into the holiday spirit by popping in a not-too-serious Christmas movie into the DVD player.

That movie would probably be Home Alone, the 1990 film that tells the story of a kid being left alone for the holidays and having to fight off two bumbling home invaders. This is a film that Dean could really get into, and also watch together with Rory.

Kirk Gleason: Elf

Kirk Gleason was the lovable, quirky handyman who made his living doing all sorts of odd jobs around Stars Hollow. A personality like Gleason would require a quirky holiday film to get them into the holiday spirit, and that film would be Elf.

The film is bizarre, wacky, and funny, and is one of the go-to Christmas movies for people with a colorful personality like Gleason. One can imagine he would have this film on repeat all throughout the holiday season.
