The first season of Gilmore Girls released in October of 2000 and introduced the world to all the wonderful people living in Stars Hollow. With Lorelai and Rory Gilmore as the show's main characters, their dynamic changed and grew throughout the show's seven seasons — just like every mother/daughter duo.

After the success of Gilmore Girls, Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life released in 2016 and closed the chapter on the series. But since the release of the revival, fans have re-watched the series time and time again and found things from the first season that came to fruition by the series finale.

Dean Got The Stay-At-Home Wife He Wanted

In the episode "That Damn Donna Reed," Rory and Lorelai are astounded when Dean sees the appeal in The Donna Reed Show. As feminists, Rory and Lorelai told Dean that no woman wants to spend her time in the kitchen all day but Dean saw it from another angle. He thought Donna enjoyed cooking for her family because it made them happy and it was their routine. He noted that his mom was a stay-at-home mom before going back to work and she loved cooking for the family. Rory was not enthused by this.

Rory and Dean never got back together after they broke up that third time around but in A Year in The Life, Dean told Rory that his wife was expecting their fourth child. It looks like Dean found his Donna Jean after all.

Rory Got To Go To Europe With Emily

While Rory and Lorelai were at Friday night dinner in season one, Richard and Emily were complaining about an upcoming trip to Europe. Every two years, Emily and Richard visited Europe in the fall because, in the spring, they enjoy going to Martha's Vineyard. Rory said she always wanted to go to Europe, and Emily wanted to take her.

By season five, Rory did end up going on a European excursion with Emily. It wasn't the trip she had in mind with her mom, but it was a trip nonetheless and they stayed true to their word.

Luke & Lorelai's Unspoken Crush Came To Fruition

the story of luke and lorelai - gilmore girls

It was clear from the pilot that there were some unspoken feelings between Lorelai and Luke. They were there for each other and vented to each other without judgment. They were truly best friends without realizing it. They helped each other and were there for each other before any romantic feelings came apparent. At one point in season one, Miss Patty made a comment to Luke about telling Lorelai he liked her but he quickly denied it (although it was fairly obvious that he was crushing on her). And as we know, Luke and Lorelai eventually found their way to each other.

Christopher Begged Lorelai To Marry Him

As important as Christopher is to Lorelai and Rory's story, he wasn't seen until the 14th episode of season one. As soon as Christopher and Lorelai had a moment alone at Richard and Emily's home for Friday night dinner, they slept together and tried to act like it never happened. But as usual, Christopher didn't want to move on from it.

He told Lorelai shortly after that he believed they should get married. He was mature and ready to settle down. Lorelai, on the other hand, wasn't ready to settle down and come home to the same man every night. Years later, Christopher—yet again—proposes and was able to secure Lorelai's hand in marriage. But in classic Lorelai and Chris fashion, they didn't work out.

Lorelai Chose Christopher Over Luke On More Than One Occasion

Christopher is that one person Lorelai has a hard time parting from. She wanted them to work as a couple but it was clear that was never going to happen.

After they slept together in season one, Lorelai woke up the next morning and knew she messed up. She was supposed to spend the night with Luke painting Luke's Diner. Instead, she chose Chris. Seasons later, Lorelai and Luke were falling apart, so what does Lorelai do? Run to Christopher. She ended up sleeping with him and breaking Luke's heart over it the next morning. From season one to season seven, Lorelai has always been torn between Christopher and Luke.

Sookie & Lorelai Bought The Dragonfly Inn

In season one, Luke got back together with his ex-girlfriend, Rachel. The two appeared to love each other but Rachel was known for leaving abruptly. Lorelai got along well with Rachel, but Rachel could sense the tension between her and Luke.

In one episode, Rachel showed Lorelai pictures of the abandoned Dragonfly Inn. This immediately piqued Lorelai's interest because she and Sookie always wanted to own their own inn one day. And luckily for them, they got exactly what they wanted. The new and improved Dragonfly Inn did incredibly well and was ready for expansion by the finale.

Emily And Her Sneakers

Emily is known to always wear sensible shoes. If she's not wearing heels, she's wearing a classy pair of loafers. But in the episode "Emily In Wonderland," Emily reluctantly puts on sneakers while venturing around Stars Hollow with Rory. Although she thought they were hideous, she found them very comfortable.

Fast-forwarding to A Year In The Life, Emily is seen in her new home getting ready for her job at the nearby whale museum. Instead of putting on loafers—which are seen next to her—she opted for comfortable sneakers. It proved that after all these years, Emily was finally giving into comfort and being herself instead of trying to fit in.

Rory Fled To Her Grandparents Twice

When fans think of Rory fleeing home for her grandparent's home, they think of season six. Rory wanted to take a break from Yale and ended up falling down a bad path and got arrested. Lorelai told Rory she wasn't allowed back home until she re-enrolled at Yale, so Rory stayed with her grandparents.

However, in the episode "P.S. I Lo...," Rory ran to her grandparents yet again after an argument with her mom. As they did in season six, Richard and Emily welcomed Rory with open arms were happy to have her home. They were always that second phone call for Rory when things went wrong with her mom.

Lorelai Is Engaged And Calls Off The Engagement Twice

Lorelai is not a woman that enjoys being tied down. She likes her freedom and living with her best friend and daughter, Rory. But after she fell hard for Rory's teacher, Max, the two became serious and eventually got engaged. But she soon realized Max wasn't the guy for her. She broke off the engagement and ran away.

Years later in season five, she proposes to Luke but calls it off when things get hazy with his daughter April. She then quickly becomes engaged to Christopher in the final season to mend her broken heart.

Luke Was Always With Lorelai At The Hospital

In season one's "I'd Rather Be In Philadelphia," Richard has a health scare that puts him in the hospital. Lorelai is driven to the hospital by Luke who later joins Rory and Emily in anticipation. Luke decided to stay behind and wait for Lorelai to make sure she was okay. In season, seven, Richard has another heart episode and lands himself back in the hospital. Even though Luke and Lorelai weren't dating anymore, he still went to the hospital to be with her and even brought food for everyone. Time after time, Luke always showed his loyalty to Lorelai.
