As iconic as it is, Gilmore Girls is full of double standards. The people of Stars Hollow and beyond have a way of thinking one way and doing another as long as it fits their narrative. And as frustrating as these double standards are, it only makes the show and its characters more relatable.

With Rory, Lane, and Paris growing up in front of the camera on Gilmore Girls, they were bound to make mistakes and learn from them as time went on. The adults, on the other hand, are another story. When Luke and Lorelai were serious enough to get engaged, they postponed the wedding until Rory and Lorelai were in a good place. Luke was fine with waiting but wanted Lorelai to be honest with him about her interactions with Christopher (due to their past issues). They had a long conversation about needing trust and honesty but the next day, Luke went back on his word. He found out he had a daughter named April and he never told Lorelai about her — for weeks! Lorelai met April on a whim and had to find out the hard way about the situation.

One of the reasons why viewers adore Gilmore Girls is because of how relatable Lorelai is. She's messy and disorganized but always has the best intentions. However, many on Reddit shred Lorelai apart for every mistake she makes while Luke gets a free pass.

One Redditor noted that Luke also made mistakes but isn't raked over the coals. Luke and Lorelai both make errors in judgment, and yet, Lorelai gets the brunt of it all.

No One Holds Paris Accountable

Paris is hilariously dry and has some of the best lines in the series. But she has also been downright cruel to Rory. Sure, they ended the series as best friends but Paris was a tyrant at the beginning.

How Could Rory Judge Paris For Having A Relationship With An Older Man?

Rory was frustrated when she found out that Paris was dating their professor, Asher Flemming. For starters, Asher was their professor at Yale. He was also far older than Paris and she was still dating Jamie. Rory was also annoyed that Paris kept the relationship a secret from her but later wanted no part of their bond.

What's weird about Rory's rage is that she later slept with a married man (Dean) and never once noted how that this was actually wrong while Paris is a consenting adult who can date whomever she pleases.

Rory Told Dean To Stay In School But Later Dropped Out Herself

Dean tells Rory that he's engaged on Gilmore Girls

Rory was bothered when Dean got married to Lindsay so quickly after their break up but what upset her more was when Dean admitted to taking time off from school. Rory told him that he would fall behind and blamed the entire ordeal on Lindsay. Surprisingly, Rory also took time from school not far after this conversation. So, Dean wasn't allowed to pause his schooling for personal reasons but she was?

The Gilmores And The Huntzbergers Are More Alike Than Fans Realized

Emily insults Shira Huntzberger in Gilmore Girls

Richard and Emily were triggered when they found out that Shira Huntzberger made Rory feel less than at their family dinner. Richard told Mitchum at the DAR event that he "crushed" her. It was improper to act such a way at dinner.

Ironically, Richard acted just like the Huntzbergers when Rory brought Dean over to her grandparents to meet them. They treated him poorly and didn't think he was good enough for Rory. Richard dished out the negative comments but couldn't handle it when the tables were turned.

This double standard was pointed out to Rory when it happened but it took a few hours for it to kick in.

After witnessing Logan's Life and Death Brigade, Rory talked about how out-of-touch it was for Logan and his friends to parade around the world with their parents' money. They were spoiled and privileged. After a heated argument, Logan made Rory realize that there was a double standard between them. Rory was just as privileged as they were. She too went to a private school, an Ivy League university, came from money, and had a trust fund. Her life was not much different from theirs.

Rory's Negative Review

When Rory started the Yale Daily News, she wrote a brutal review of one of Yale's plays. Rory and Lorelai thought the play was bland and that the main ballerina was left a lot to be desired. The ballerina was devastated by Rory's review because it left a lasting effect on her performance, her career, and her livelihood. Rory was astounded that the dancer was so upset and tried reminding her that it was just a review. Funny enough, when Mitchum gave Rory an honest review during her internship, she acted similarly. She panicked, stole a yacht, and dropped out of school. She should have done a double dose of apologizing after realizing how hurtful reviews could be.
