Amy Sherman Palladino's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel includes many actors who appeared in her previous show, the beloved and quirky Gilmore Girls. From Alex Borstein to Liza Weil and even Emily Gilmore herself, Kelly Bishop, many of Palladino's regulars played memorable roles in both shows.

However, some actors were so loyal that they played multiple characters in the Gilmore girls' eccentric and fast-paced story. And while many loyal fans who have watched the show several times would certainly know about them, casual viewers might be surprised to learn about these actors who pulled double duty.

Rose Abdoo

Gypsy standing in line in Stars Hollow on Gilmore Girls

Stars Hollow had many memorable residents, and Gypsy, the town's mechanic, was one of them. She is quick-tempered and shows little patience with the town's shenanigans. Berta is a character introduced in A Year in the Life, Emily's newest maid who has a large family. They all end up living with Emily.

Character actress Rose Abdoo plays both characters. Gypsy is a fan favorite who appears in almost every season. However, Berta was less popular; the character received a divided response from critics and fans, who considered it a harmful and stereotypical portrayal of Latino people. Still, Abdoo did her best with the character and prevented her from being just a walking prop.

Sean Gunn

Kirk sitting at a table at Luke's diner on Gilmore Girls

Kirk is arguably the funniest character in Gilmore Girls, and that's saying something. The character is the oddest and quirkiest in Stars Hollow, famous for his numerous jobs and eccentric personality. Sean Gunn, James Gunn's brother, played Kirk since the show's inception, but he also gave life to another character.

During the show's first episodes, Gunn plays a character named Mick, who installs a DSL in the Gilmore house. Gunn starts playing Kirk in episode three, although the town's people don't seem to recognize him. The show later retcons his origins to make it seem like he's lived on the town all his life, but hardcore fans know this wasn't always the case.

Mary Lynn Rajskub

Mary Lynn Rajskub Gilmore Girls

One of Kirk's greatest moments in Gilmore Girls is when he presents his short film during the town's movie night. A Film by Kirk is an obvious parody of a student film, all the way to the bizarre non-plot and the abrupt cuts. Character actress Mary Lynn Rajskub plays Kirk's girlfriend in the short film, giving a memorably weird performance to match the story's tone.

Rajskub returns in season six, playing an unnamed female troubadour. It's unclear if both characters are the same, but there's a possibility they are. However, neither character receives a name and only appears in short scenes. The show reveals nothing about them, so there's a chance they're different characters who look eerily alike.

Marion Ross

Tris looking haughty in Gilmore Girls.

For years, Trix Gilmore was the reigning Lorelai. Richard's overbearing and haughty mother first appears in season 1 and returns several times before her death in season 3. Emmy nominee Marion Ross played Trix, providing Gilmore Girls with one of its most memorable and intimidating characters.

After Trix's death, Ross returns twice to play Marilyn Gilmore, Trix's niece, Richard's cousin and one of Gilmore Girls' funniest side characters. In stark contrast to Trix, Marilyn is more flamboyant and famous among the Gilmore clan for securing family heirlooms before the owner even dies. Ross shines as both Trix and Marilyn, giving each character a distinctive personality that makes them instantly memorable.

Charles C. Stevenson Jr.

Reverend Wilder talking in Gilmore Girls.

Veteran actor Charles C. Stevenson Jr. plays three different characters in Gilmore Girls. He first appears in the season 1 episode "Kill Me Now" as Julian, one of Richard's friends from the club. He returns as the revered who presides over Trix's funeral and comes back one last time in A Year in the Life, playing Charlie, one of the Stars Hollow Gazette employees.

All characters share similarities, and the show usually uses them as an excuse to make jokes about older people. However, Stevenson Jr. grants them a sense of dignity that stops them from being a complete joke. He probably had the most fun with Julian, the character who makes several jokes at the expense of other club members.

Riki Lindhome

Riki Lindhome on Gilmore Girls

Riki Lindhome is an actress famous for being one-half of the singing and comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates alongside Kate Micucci. Lundhome also played Ramona Notizki, Sheldon's assistant and one of The Big Bang Theory's biggest scene-stealing side characters.

Before her mainstream success, Lindhome made several guest appearances in Gilmore Girls, where she played two different characters. First, she portrayed an unnamed high school student who has many questions for Lorelai in a season 3 episode. She returned in season 5 and made several appearances as Juliet, one of the girls who hang out with Logan and his friends from the Life and Death Brigade.

Lance Barber

Lorelai and an employee talking at the Independence Inn in Gilmore Girls.

Nowadays, Lance Barber is best known as George Cooper Sr., one of the funniest characters in Young Sheldon. However, he also guest-starred twice on Gilmore Girls, playing two different characters. The first time he appears as an unnamed employee who helps build a runway at the Independence Inn.

Barber's most meaningful role comes in season 7. He plays Hugo Gray, one of Logan's friends who owns an online newspaper. As it turns out, Gray is one of the most important characters in Gilmore Girls because he gives Rory a job and the chance to travel the road as a correspondent during the Obama campaign.

Sherilyn Fenn

Anna Nardini looking serious sitting in Luke's diner on Gilmore Girls

Emmy nominee Sherilynn Fenn was an established actress when she first appeared in Gilmore Girls. Fenn rose to prominence in the '90s thanks to her role as Audrey Horne in David Lynch's iconic show Twin Peaks. She first appeared on Gilmore Girls in season 3, playing Sasha, the girlfriend of Jess' estranged father, Jimmy. The episode was to serve as a back-door pilot for a Jess-centric spinoff, but the network ultimately dropped the plans.

Fenn returned in seasons 6 and 7, playing Anna Nardini, Luke's ex-girlfriend and April's mother. She plays a mainly antagonistic role, especially in season 7. Reception to Anna was divisive, with many disliking her because of her attitude towards Lorelai and Luke.

Alex Borstein

Miss Celine at the Gilmore home in Gilmore Girls

Alex Borstein is a three-time Emmy-winning actress. She currently plays the hilarious Susie Myerson in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but her relationship with Amy Sherman-Palladino goes back to Gilmore Girls. Indeed, Borstein played Sookie in the original unaired Pilot, but Palladino recast the role after Borstein could not get out of her Mad TV contract, allowing Melissa McCarthy to take over.

Borstein still appeared in Gilmore Girls, albeit in a limited capacity. She played the sarcastic and short-tempered Drella, a rude harpist working at the Independence Inn and Miss Celine, the Gilmore clan's eccentric and posh dresser. Borstein played both roles throughout the show's original run and reprised them for A Year in the Life.
