Jennifer Lopez reveals she wants to make a sequel to Gigli. The 2003 romantic crime comedy follows the titular Larry Gigli, a bumbling low-level mobster played by Ben Affleck who is tasked with kidnapping the younger brother of a powerful prosecutor. When the plan goes awry, Gigli's boss sends someone to clean up the mess – a free-spirited gangster played by Lopez whom Gigli immediately falls for. The film, which was the last written and directed by Martin Brest, went on to become one of the biggest box-office bombs of all time, grossing an abysmal $7 million against a $75 million budget.

Even though Gigli was a box-office bomb, Lopez still wants to make a sequel. During a recent appearance on Vogue's 73 Questions video series, Lopez was asked which of her movies she would most want to make a sequel to, and she answered, "Gigli." The interviewer sarcastically replied, "Critically acclaimed," prompting laughs from Lopez.

Which Lopez Movies Should Get Sequels

It's no surprise that Lopez wants to make a sequel to Gigli, which has special significance to her considering she met her husband Affleck on the film. In addition to being a box-office bomb, Gigli was excoriated by critics and audiences for its ham-fisted plot and surprisingly, a lack of chemistry between Affleck and Lopez. In the years since Gigli's release, its reputation has only worsened, and is now widely considered one of the worst films ever made. Therefore, a Gigli sequel would give Lopez and Affleck, whose careers and relationship have come a long way since 2003, the opportunity to revisit and redeem their biggest failure.

After Gigli, Lopez and Affleck starred together again in Jersey Girl. The 2004 comedy was received only slightly better and was another box-office bomb. Still, it holds up better today than Gigli and might be a better sequel option. Over the years, a few of Lopez's best performances have come in Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight and more recently, Hustlers, which some consider to be the best performance of her career. However, neither one of those films are exactly conducive to sequels.

Lopez hasn't made a single sequel throughout her career and with Gigli unlikely to be the first, this might remain the case for the foreseeable future. Instead, she will continue starring in one-off romantic comedies like Shotgun Wedding, releasing early next year on Prime Video. This is in addition to her musical career, with Lopez recently announcing her first studio album in nine years called This Is Me … Now, which will also arrive next year and is partly about her reunion with Affleck. Perhaps this could reignite some interest in the infamous film that started the couple's relationship, Gigli.
