There's no new episode of The Gifted this week on Tuesday, February 5. FOX's X-Men series is on a two-week break before it returns to wrap up season 2 because of President Donald Trump's State of the Union Address, which was originally planned for the last Tuesday in January. The State of the Union was rescheduled, which bumped the final two episodes of The Gifted.

When The Gifted was pre-empted for the originally scheduled State of the Union last week, January 29th, FOX ran a repeat of "eneMy of My eneMy", The Gifted season 2 episode 10, which originally aired on January 1st. "eneMy of My eneMy" was The Gifted's mid-season 2 premiere that saw Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) and Polaris (Emma Dumont) temporarily return to the Mutant Underground to help them rescue Thunderbird (Blair Redford) after he was captured and tortured by the Purifiers. It also started Polaris' turn as a double agent who is now working against the Inner Circle, as well as Lauren Strucker (Natalie Alyn Lind) becoming further seduced by her evolving mutant powers. These are pivotal storylines that will culminate in the final two episodes of The Gifted's 15-episode season 2.

The Gifted will now return with a new episode on Tuesday, February 12. The episode, titled "calaMity", will deal with the ramifications of the death of Max (James Carpinello), who was accidentally killed by Eclipse (Sean Teale). Max was one of three dangerous mutants the Inner Circle recruited for their plot to destroy the major landmarks and government buildings in Washington, D.C. In "calaMity", the Inner Circle's leader Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) realizes Max has gone missing and intensifies security, which is bound to make life difficult for Polaris as she tries to avoid suspicion. In addition, Reed (Stephen Moyer) treats Lauren with his mutant powers-suppressing serum in order to hide her from the Frosts (Skyler Samuels), who want Lauren to join Andy in the Inner Circle.

It will all come to a head in The Gifted season 2 finale, titled "Monsters", on Tuesday February 19. The official plot description for the episode states that "Lauren can't access her powers when it matters most, leaving Caitlin to take matters into her own hands when they are being pursued; Reeva finally reveals her plan for the Inner Circle; Jace confronts some regrets about his actions." This seems to indicate that the secretive Reeva finally lets the rest of the Inner Circle in on how she plans to build her mutant nation, although Polaris already discovered it involves mass destruction and acts of terror. The Frosts may also be the ones pursuing Lauren, whose power Andy needs to complete Fenris - and their combined destructive capabilities could be vital for Reeva to fulfill her master plan. Meanwhile, Jace Turner (Coby Bell) looks to be dealing with the fallout of his season-long descent into becoming the public face and leader of the Purifiers.

It sounds like the Mutant Underground will need all the help they can get to finally score a victory over the Inner Circle - this could mean Blink (Jamie Chung) might convince Erg (Michael Luwoye) to leave the sewers and bring the Morlocks into the fight. It remains to be seen if the heroes can ultimately stop Reeva from fulfilling her dream of violently forging a nation for both the good and evil mutants of The Gifted.

The Gifted season 2 returns to its regular time slot on Tuesday, February 5 at 9pm on FOX.
