[SPOILERS for those not caught up on The Gifted ahead.]

Next week on The Gifted, the mutants will finally take action to rescue Polaris (Emma Dumont) and Reed (Stephen Moyer) from Sentinel Services. The episode will also put the mutants in a situation where they will be unable to use their powers.

On last night’s episode of The Gifted, titled “eXodus”, the mutants decided to break Polaris and Reed out of prison. Looking to find less violent options to rescue her husband, Caitlin (Amy Acker) left with her children to ask her brother for help, which led them into conflict with her brother’s mutant-hating neighbors. To save them, Dreamer (Elena Satine) implanted a false, romantic memory of Blink (Clarice Fong) and Thunderbird (Blair Redford) in Blink’s head to motivate her into creating a portal. The mutants were barely able to escape the authorities. Meanwhile, Reed had a change of heart about betraying the mutant underground.

At the end of the episode, Caitlin learned that Reed and another powerful mutant, presumably Polaris, will soon be transferred to another facility, which suggests that the time for the mutants to act has come. The promo for next week’s episode, “eXit strategy”, indicates that their plan to rescue Polaris and Reed will finally take shape.

The Gifted TV show cast The Gifted Battles a New Threat in eXit Strategy Trailer

The promo shows Eclipse (Sean Teale) and Thunderbird plotting with the mutant underground to attack the vehicle transporting Polaris and Reed. It appears that Caitlin’s children, Laura (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White), will assist them in their efforts. However, Polaris and Reed won’t simply wait to be rescued, and may make an attempt to escape on their own, if an opportunity presents itself. During a battle with Sentinel Services, the mutants discover that their abilities are no longer working, and that someone is somehow nullifying them.

The synopsis for the episode reveals that the mutant ally of Sentinel Services is X-Men character Pulse, played by Zach Roerig. The comic book version of Pulse is a mutant with a romantic interest in Rogue and the ability to disable mutant powers.

It remains to be seen if the plan to save Polaris and Reed will work, or if it will cost human (or mutant) lives. It’s also unclear how the mutant underground will feel about Reed’s attempts to betray them. Though he didn’t go through with it, his actions jeopardized the mutant bartender who agreed to help him. If and when Reed is rescued, it could be a while before Reed and the mutants will be able to completely trust each other.
