Actor Giancarlo Esposito reveals that he's met with Marvel about a potential role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Esposito has been acting since the late 1970s, but he really came to mainstream prominence when he landed the role of Gus Fring on Breaking Bad, which saw him nominated for an Oustanding Supporting Actor Emmy. Since then, he has had roles in numerous major shows and films, including the Maze Runner franchise, The Boys, The Mandalorian, Better Call Saul, and he even recently played the villain in the video game Far Cry 6.

Marvel has been having a successful year at the box office in 2022, riding high on the wake of last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home. The MCU has seen two more films released since, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. And while those films had a mixed reception from critics and audiences, the box office returns for each have been on par with Marvel's bankable track record. However, Marvel isn't resting on its laurels, mapping out the MCU through 2025 at San Diego Comic-Con. With so many projects in the works, Marvel Studios likely has numerous high-profile roles to cast.

While attending TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio, Esposito shared some Marvel news in a TikTok shared by @countdowncitygeeks. The actor told attendees that he has met with Marvel to discuss potential roles in upcoming MCU projects. While he didn't confirm his involvement, Esposito did mention various characters that have been discussed, including Magneto and Doctor Doom. However, according to the actor, he has his eyes set on the role of Professor X. Check out Esposito's comments about potentially joining the MCU below:

"I have not worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in a room with them and talked to them. ... There’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze ... Oh, [Doctor] Doom ... And there is Professor X ... I’m gonna go for something that is a little bit different. I’m gonna go put it out into the universe that it is Professor X."

Esposito mentioned several roles for projects fans have been waiting on for some time, with Fantastic Four and X-Men characters being brought up. Fantastic Four was recently announced at SDCC, set to kick off Phase 6 of the MCU, where Doctor Doom could play a pivotal role. However, what most audiences are likely excited about are the mentions of the X-Men roles of Magneto and Professor X. While Esposito has the talent to tackle either character, the fact that Marvel has discussed them with an actor in the first place could mean that there is movement on the X-Men joining the MCU, despite no officially announced film or show.

The MCU recently made their first nod to mutants in Ms. Marvel, revealing that Kamala had a mutation. Patrick Stewart also recently reprised his role as an alternate universe version of Professor X in Multiverse of Madness. While the X-Men are likely to pop up on one of the unassigned Phase 6 dates Marvel has already announced, Esposito hasn't confirmed anything beyond talks. However, Marvel routinely lands A-list talent, and with years before the discussed characters even hit the screen, there is plenty of time for Esposito to secure one of the coveted roles he mentioned. Further details on Esposito potentially joining the MCU will likely come with an official announcement from Marvel.
