The first toys for the upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I Joe Origins gives fans a first look at the upcoming movie. The film is an origin story for the fan-favorite character Snake Eyes, played by Henry Golding and directed by Red filmmaker Robert Schwentke. Initially set to be released in October 2020, the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now arrive in theaters on October 22, 2021.

G.I Joe is a popular brand of toys from Hasbro, having its roots back in 1964 and getting a massive rehaul in the 1980s where key characters like Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Cobra Commander were introduced. The toyline was the inspiration for the popular animated series G.I Joe: A Real American Hero, which ran from 1983 to 1986. Paramount would adapt the franchise into two feature films, 2009's G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013's G.I Joe: Retaliation. Paramount is branching the franchise off with solo spin-off projects, including an Amazon series about Lady Jaye and the upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I Joe Origins.

In a report by Yahoo, a sneak peek at the film's upcoming action figures gives fans a first look at the movie. The action figures include Snake Eyes, his arch-enemy Storm Shadow (Andrew Koji), the high-ranking Cobra officer the Baroness (Úrsula Corberó), and fellow G.I Joe member and Snake Eye's romantic partner Scarlett (Samara Weavering). The toys will go on sale on November 1, 2021, two weeks after the film's release and just in time for the holiday season.

Snake Eyes: G.I Joe Origins is the latest attempt by Paramount to expand their various properties to other media. Fellow Hasbro toyline turned movie franchise Transformers currently has a new animated series in the works and two different feature film projects. Paramount Pictures also planned to crossover G.I Joe with other Hasbro properties, including Micronauts, M.A.S.K, Rom, and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light.

Fans getting their first look at Snake Eyes: G.I Joe Origins with a toy reveal is fitting given the film is an adaptation of a popular toyline. With movie theaters beginning to open up across the country, it appears fewer films will be delaying release dates, and the marketing campaign for the film can settle in. However, October is a crowded month with films like Halloween Kills, No Time To Die, and Dune all opening. So there could still be one last delay before the film hits theaters.
