Proton packs used by the ghostbusters in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife will finally have their “on” switches revealed. After one official sequel in 1989 and a somewhat disappointing gender swapped Ghostbusters reboot in 2016, the incredibly beloved film franchise is at last set to welcome its third official installment. The new film is co-written and directed by Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director, Ivan, and releases on November 19.

Ever since the first film arrived in 1984, the ghostbusters have not only become immortalized in everything from animated programming to video games and figurines, but the idea of being an actual ghostbuster has long been a dream of many fans and cosplayers. Designing a custom ghostbuster costume has allowed devotees to step into the world of the famed paranormal fighters if only for a brief period, and creating one’s own proton pack plus all that the costume entails is arguably the perfect way to gain a deeper knowledge of the films and their characters. The Ghostbusters films provide a solid enough foundation for learning the basics of what goes where in terms of ghostbuster weaponry, but not every question about the iconic setup can necessarily be answered from the films alone.

Thankfully, Reitman knows that some fans want even the slightest detail about the ghostbuster’s equipment covered. While showing off a proton pack that he’d built for New York Comic-Con, Adam Savage discussed the finer details of the ghostbusters with Reitman. Eventually, Reitman’s inspection of Savage’s work came around to the detail of the proton packs' “on” switch. Reitman was delighted to note that Savage had been savvy enough to include the switch, which has never been shown in the films. Read what Reitman said below:

So we’re here at Comic-Con tonight and this is actually a thrilling night because it’s going to be the moment where all these fans of Ghostbusters are going to see the switch for the first time in operation, and I’m really, really hoping that it gets the reaction it deserves.

In the original Ghostbusters, the proton packs are seen being switched on in preparation for battle, but the exact location of the switch is never actually revealed. It is fitting that Reitman is the one to at last reveal the switch’s location, as his connection to the franchise runs quite deep. As the son of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan, Jason has been a part of the Ghostbusters universe since childhood. He’s even got a cameo in the second film, as a particularly obnoxious child at birthday party. There’s a definite degree of care for what comes next in the franchise on his part, and though a small detail, the inclusion of the proton packs’ “on” switch in Ghostbusters: Afterlife is sure to be appreciated by many.

Of course, regardless of how clear Reitman makes the location of the “on” switch, it’s going to take more than that for Ghostbusters: Afterlife to be a hit. Fortunately, what’s been seen so far of the new film looks impressive, and early reviews for this third and official Ghostbusters sequel have mostly been positive. With less than a month to go before the film releases, fans are more than a little eager to see the direction that the franchise goes in, and the knowledge that some specifics such as proton pack switches will be addressed is an encouraging detail for what’s to come.
