Jason Reitman's upcoming Ghostbusters 2020 movie casts two newcomers in mystery roles. The new film will mark the fourth Ghostbusters movie to be released since Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and the late Harold Ramis first introduced the world to the comedic supernatural concept in 1984.

Despite the continued growth of the franchise, however, the release of Paul Feig’s female led Ghostbusters reboot in 2016 is not considered part of the original series. Nor is the universe inhabited by the characters of that film related to Reitman’s original, prompting Feig to recently give fans of the 2016 film hope by suggesting that a sequel could potentially happen at some point. While that possibility remains remote for the time being - considering Ghostbusters: Answer the Call failed to turn a suitable profit - most Ghostbusters fans are currently too preoccupied with the upcoming arrival of Ghostbusters 2020 to pay the idea much mind. Slowly but surely the new film, which is an official follow up to 1989’s Ghostbusters II, is building its cast, and director Jason Reitman has been careful to keep the plot under wraps.

Now thanks to Variety, some new casting news has popped up. Two new young actors have joined the Ghostbusters 2020 ensemble: child actor Logan Kim and 20-year-old Celeste O’Connor. Kim will be making his big screen debut in Ghostbusters 2020, while O’Connor has previously appeared in Irreplaceable You, and most recently had a role in Selah and the Spades, which premiered at Sundance.

As has been the case with most things Ghostbusters 2020 related up to this point, exactly what sort of roles these two newcomers will play is currently unknown. What is known of the confirmed cast so far is that it’s definitely looking promising. Paul Rudd was recently cast in Ghostbusters 2020, alongside Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace. There has also previously been confirmation the surviving original Ghostbusters (consisting of Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd) as well as Sigourney Weaver, have read the new script and likely will have some sort of involvement with the film. In terms of plot, all that is currently known is that the new film will focus on Coon and her son (Wolfhard). Previous reports have given fans the rudimentary breakdown of a new generation of teen paranormal activity researchers joining forces to breathe life into the Ghostbusters service.

Given what is currently known about this next step into the world of the Ghostbusters, taking the series back to a younger generation is a smart move. In this way, not only will the franchise appeal to those who have loved the series since it first began, but it will also build a new fanbase that will enable Sony to move forward in a significant way. Of course, moving forward only works if Ghostbusters 2020 is a hit, but so far even with the limited information that’s available, Reitman’s new take on such a popular concept is looking like it could be a good one.
