Spoilers for Ghost-Spider #8 and #9 below
Ghost-Spider is about to have an unwelcome reunion with Gwenom. Gwen Stacy's spider-suit was always a bit different than other web-based heroes. Her suit is made up of symbiote spiders, which grants her a handful of powers. However, the character formerly known as Spider-Gwen is set to see her suit turn Gwenomous.
From Spider-Gwen #24-29, Gwen's universe's version of the Venom symbiote popped up and wreaked havoc. The last time Gwenom showed up, Gwen took on a number of the Hand and almost killed a criminal mastermind version of Matt Murdock. The symbiote has the power to control its hosts and make them do things they might not otherwise do. Gwenom's appearance led to Gwen telling the public about her secret identity as well as receiving a one-year prison sentence in a S.H.I.E.L.D. maximum security prison. Eventually, Gwen defeated the symbiote after bonding with it to fix her powers - but it clearly still impacts her life.
In previews for Ghost-Spider #8 and 9 by Seanan McGuire, IG Guara, and Takeshi Miyazawa, Gwen's band the Mary Janes are in the midst of a multiversal concert tour. The tour should be a way to escape all the spider-madness for Gwen, however, it's when the symbiotic Gwenom is set to make a return.
So far, Ghost-Spider has been able to mostly hold off the symbiote from causing chaos - although it's come with some problems including given Gwen massive headaches. Ultimately, she ends up on Earth-616 to investigate and Peter Parker offers his assistance in the matter. She chooses to stick around on the Earth since the public isn't aware of her identity.
Gwenom returning is bad news for everyone involved. Gwen seems to have finally gotten her life in order after the events on her home Earth, her prison sentence and her previous ordeal with Gwenom. Playing with the Mary Janes across the multiverse should be a fun, unforgettable experience for Gwen, but if Gwenom shows up, it's just further proof that Ghost-Spider can't catch a break.
