Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Trailer Introduces Predator

A new trailer for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands reveals players will be able to hunt the iconic alien hunter the Predator in new DLC. The original Predator celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017 and told the story of an alien hunter who lands on earth to stalk some hardened soldiers - only to learn that hunting Arnold Schwarzenegger is a really terrible idea.

The movie went on to spawn a franchise that features multiple movies, video games, comics and toys. The creature even featured in two crossovers movies with its rival monster the Xenomorph - though the resulting Alien Vs Predator movies did little to satisfy the fanbase of either franchise. He also recently made an appearance as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat X, and now he’s set to cameo in another high profile video game.

Ubisoft has announced the arrival of the hunter in a new trailer for Ghost Recon: Wildlands, where players will be able to hunt (and be hunted by) the eponymous beast. Starting today and running until early January 2018, players will be able to take part in a special challenge to hunt the creature- and if they succeed in killing it, they will be able to access special gear, like heat vision and a plasma cannon. Of course, as anyone who’s seen the movies will know, killing a Predator is easier said than done.

The game’s trailer features a lot of fun callbacks to Predator, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands jungle setting makes it a natural for a guest appearance by the hunter. Guest appearances by iconic monsters in video games has become a popular trend in recent years, with Freddy Kruger and Michael Myers showing up in Dead By Daylight, while the Alien and Jason also made appearances in Mortal Kombat X.

The Predator franchise is also looking to make a big screen comeback. Shane Black is directing forthcoming sequel The Predator, which will find a group of soldiers hunting the creature in suburbia. The script for the film has been praised as a fresh new take on the Predator, and one that reinvents the series for modern audiences. While the new film will have ties to past movies, it won’t feature any returning characters, as Schwarzenegger turned down a cameo appearance as his character Dutch because he wanted a larger role. Maybe if The Predator succeeds in reinvigorating the franchise, he can be convinced to appear in later sequels.
