The heroes of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint are soon going to have an infamous new foe to square off against: The Terminator, as Ubisoft has just announced an online crossover event between the latest Ghost Recon game and the iconic 1984 film in a press release today, as part of a deal with Terminator parent company StudioCanal. Set on the fictional island of Auroa in the year 2023, Breakpoint tells the story of Lieutenant Colonel Anthony "Nomad" Perryman and the elite special operations team known as the Ghosts as they investigate the mysterious crashing of a cargo ship named the USS Seay.

This leads to an ambush by an army of drones under the command of former Ghost Lieutenant Colonel Cole D. Walker and his rogue unit known as the “Wolves,” leading to a fight for survival across the island’s various environments. The game was released last October to less-than-stellar reviews, with many fans criticizing its heavy reliance on microtransactions, a trend that’s grown all too common among games in recent years.

According to Ubisoft’s press release earlier today, the Terminator event will begin at 9 am tomorrow and remain free to play on Xbox One, PS4, Windows PC, Ubisoft’s new UPLAY+ subscription service and Stadia until February 6. It will consist of two new story missions, which will be available to play in either single-player or multiplayer and feature the Ghosts joining forces with a woman from the future named Rasa Aldwin to stop an army of the dreaded Terminators in Auroa. There will also be daily warfare and interception missions during this event, which players can complete in order to unlock new weapons, vehicles, and costumes inspired by the original Terminator film. The missions will still be playable after the event ends. You can check out Ubisoft's trailer for the event below:

This is all part of Breakpoint’s Episode 1 DLC update called “Operation Greenstone”, which provides new missions, a raid event taking place on a volcanic island and a new Engineer class. Players have been able to purchase this content since October in the form of the Year 1 Season Pass, which includes both the first event and two others, named “Deep State” and “Transcendence,” as well as access to the Terminator missions after February 6.

While the Terminator franchise has been on shaky ground as far as movies are concerned, the series has been enjoying a miniature renaissance of sorts in the world of gaming in the form of both this upcoming event and the T-800’s recent guest appearance in Mortal Kombat 11. A crossover with the Ghost Recon series is a fitting choice, given that the franchise deals with futuristic warfare not unlike the kind depicted in brief flash-forward moments throughout the films, and the novelty of playing out those battles in-game could give Ghost Recon: Breakpoint the boost it needs after its rough start last fall. Fans of both franchises will be able to rage against the machines when Ubisoft’s event begins tomorrow morning.
