The Behemoths roaming around Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint can be some of the most dangerous enemies players battle in the entire game, with only a few seconds standing between even the toughest soldiers and certain death if approached wrongly. Although eventually a player will become experienced enough to deal with one of these massive drone tanks the old-fashioned way, most people tend to come across Behemoths when they are far below the game's recommended level for engagement. However, with a few tricks and a little patience even a low-level player can defeat a Behemoth.
AI-controlled and often found with additional enemies nearby, Behemoths seem daunting when they are first encountered during early exploration of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Although the game has caught a large amount of criticism for its excessive use of microtransactions and issues related to day one access availability, many players have still both made it to and been hampered by these massive tanks.
Scattered all around the fictional island of Auroa, these hulking Metal Gear Solid-esque machines give very little room for error when dealt with up close. Since the areas they guard can hold some of the most valuable loot in the game, however, sooner or later a player is going to want to take one of them on, and following the tips listed below can help turn a prolonged and dangerous battle into something a little more manageable.
Keep Your Distance
Behemoths are deadly up close, equipped with dual miniguns that can turn a player's Ghost to shreds within seconds if they are in full view of the barrels. Thankfully, the AI vehicles tend to only utilize these weapons when the player is nearby, choosing instead to attack with a much less dangerous, much easier to dodge missile barrage when provoked from afar. By taking quick potshots with a sniper or assault rifle and then changing position before the machine can get a lock on your location, a player can effectively chip away at a Behemoth's health bar until they defeat the drone or until they run out of ammo, whichever comes first.
Keeping clear of the machine's chain guns is the first step in defeating a Behemoth in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, but players shouldn't get lulled into a false sense of security just because they are farther away from the main enemy. Behemoths are sometimes accompanied by Jon Bernthal's Cole Walker-led elite Wolves and/or platoons of regular enemies, and it's equally important players keep an eye out for how much attention the noise from their battle is causing lest they find themselves surrounded. Sharp cliffs, too, should be traversed carefully during these battles, as nothing is more frustrating than lowering a Behemoth's health bar slowly for ten minutes and then accidentally tumbling down a cliff only to end up staring both minigun barrels in the face.
Go For the Weak Points
Just like the best robotic video game enemies, Behemoths have special locations which cause them to take more damage when shot than others, here indicated by glowing blue tubes. These tubes are initially covered with steel plating when the tanks are at full health, but a few direct shots (the actual number of which depends on just how high the difference in levels between the player and the Behemoth is) will send these protective covers flying. Once the blue tubes underneath receive enough damage they will explode, leaving the vehicle momentarily stunned.
There are three of such weak points on each Behemoth in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and although it may be tempting for a player to destroy all three at once it can sometimes be more beneficial to space them out, keeping a spare stun on hand in case things begin to go sour. Be careful, however, because spending too much time zoomed in through a scope aiming at blue rectangles can see the player missing the giant red beacon above indicating they are about to get hit by a retaliatory missile attack.
Invest In Yourself
By the time a player encounters their first Behemoth in Breakpoint, they will likely have leveled up once or twice and acquired a number of skill points. Although the recommended gear ranking for most Behemoth battles is at least 100, there are some simple upgrades a player can take before even reaching level 20 which can radically enhance the chances of defeating a Behemoth.
Players looking to level their character in such a way should acquire the Rocket Launcher item perk as soon as possible. Much like with the destruction of the blue tubes, a well-placed RPG can stop the Behemoth in its tracks, stunning the drone momentarily and allowing the player to open fire with their weapon of choice. Taking any and all upgrade paths which enhance explosive capacity and drone damage can also be quite beneficial, as well as the skills which enhance reload speed and cliff stamina.
Behemoths can seem like an overwhelming threat at first, but by following the simple instructions above players will soon find themselves clearing out these massive tanks with ease. While developer Ubisoft is now removing microtransactions in order to earn back goodwill from angry fans, rest assured knowing that, using the tips listed above, players can defeat a Behemoth in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint for free.
