J.K Simmons and Betty Gilpin are in negotiations to join Chris Pratt in the sci-fi thriller Ghost Draft. Produced by Paramount and Skydance Media, Ghost Draft has been in development for quite some time. Earlier this year, Jurassic World’s Pratt was speculated as circling the project as the titular leading role and could soon be joined by two of Hollywood’s finest.

Helmed by The LEGO Batman Movie’s Chris McKay, Ghost Draft is set in the future where humanity is failing to survive in a war against aliens. The story follows a man who is drafted to fight in the war in which the fate of mankind relies on his ability to correct the issues of his past.  So far, official plot and character details have been under wraps, but the enticing premise and attached star power have checked off the makings of a box office hit. Fresh off the success of GLOW season 3, Gilpin has been in the spotlight recently with the cancelation of The Hunt - in which she had a starring role - and the announcement of her casting in Sony’s reboot of The Grudge. Oscar-winner Simmons recently starred in Hulu’s revival of Veronica Mars and will soon be seen the opposite of Chadwick Boseman in the upcoming 21 Bridges

Now, Gilpin and Simmons could be adding Ghost Draft to their impressive list of credits. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Simmons is in talks to join the cast as Pratt’s Father, and Gilpin’s potential role details remain a mystery. If the two actors are officially signed on for the project, they will round out a cast that includes Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (IT Chapter Two).

Ghost Draft is in the creative hands of producers, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Adam Kolbrenner, David Goyer, and Jules Daly. McKay has been tapped to direct with a script penned by Zach Dean (Deadfall) and Bill Dubuque. Production for Ghost Draft has been set on a fast track with filming slated for September in Atlanta and Iceland.

Toting a compelling premise and seasoned creative team, Ghost Draft could become one of the most highly anticipated sci-fi thrillers by confirming Gilpin and Simmon’s pedigree talent on the slate. Both actors possess the ability to inhabit their roles and the surroundings of their characters and could correlate well with Pratt’s humor, charm, and candor. Gilpin and Simmons are the perfect choices to contribute to the fast-paced and alienesque atmosphere of Ghost Draft.
