Gex the Gecko and Agent Xtra come to life in a 90s Saturday morning cartoon style, thanks to a dedicated fan. Gex was the star of a cult classic game trilogy from the late 90s about saving the world of television. His secret agent partner/love interest Agent Xtra, in complete contrast to the cartoony setting of Gex, was portrayed as a live-action character by Playboy model and Baywatch actress Marliece Andrada.

Gex is remembered for exploring levels based on television tropes and genres while constantly making goofy quips and pop culture references. While most of his quotes are pretty dated now, the various actors that portrayed him, such as comedian Dana Gould, made a lasting impression on players. Meanwhile, while displayed prominently in much of the games' advertising, the character Agent Xtra played a small role in the Gex games themselves. While she was a secret agent alongside Gex, she never got to do any of the action that would typically come with her job. Fortunately, this cartoon aimed to change that.

Starring alongside Agent Xtra, Gex has adventures through many TV genres in the style of a Toon Disney series. Fan and animator FlippinDingDong created this cartoon and was so convincing that for a moment, some fans believed it was an actual series they had missed out on. Every detail from the art style, sound quality, the Toon Disney logo in the corner, and even the credits sequence, feels exactly like watching a Disney cartoon from the 90s. As mentioned on their Twitter, FlippinDingDong went through all the steps to make the animation as authentic as possible. They used Toon Disney classics like Rescue Rangers as a reference, pulled audio clips from the games, and even ran the cartoon through a VHS player to get that grainy 90s feel. In the cartoon, Gex and Xtra face-off against ninjas, Frankenstein's monster, and their arch nemesis Rez in several different settings, just like in the games.

Seeing Gex and Xtra's adventures animated with such quality and care makes a case for why there should be an actual Gex TV series. Each episode could be a different TV genre parody, with Xtra playing the straight man role while Gex cracks jokes. With over twenty years of television since the last Gex game, the gecko would have plenty of new material to rip on.

FlippinDingDong has created a masterfully faithful depiction of the gecko and his adventures through television. Fans have wanted the Gex series to make a return for years, but maybe a cartoon could better use the characters and settings than a game could. It only feels appropriate that after saving the world of television several times, Gex should have his own show.
