Bungie is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a Destiny 2 in-game event. Hosted by Xur, the event features new activities, Exotic quests, armor, and weapons inspired by Bungie's past games, including the BXR-55 Rifle, the Wastelander M5 Shotgun, and the fan-favorite Eyasluna Hand Cannon from the first Destiny game. In addition, the celebration also features the return of Strange Coins.

Strange Coins are a form of currency that originated in the first Destiny. They were used to purchase Exotic armor and weapons from Xur. Instead of being used for Exotics, Strange Coins in Destiny 2 can be used to buy rewards and bounties from Starhorse. Among the available rewards are the Paraversal Haul package, which can contain Exotic gear, Legendary gear, Strange Coins, and Treasure Keys. Treasure Keys may also be directly purchased with Strange Coins, allowing players to open the chest next to Xur and collect the loot inside.

The best way to earn Strange Coins in Destiny 2 is by completing the Dares of Eternity 6-player activity. Each completion of the activity rewards players with one guaranteed Strange Coin, as well as a Treasure Key. There is also a chance to earn Strange Coins from completing other in-game activities, such as Vanguard Strikes, Crucible matches, Gambit matches, Heroic Public Events, and bounties. Strange Coins may also be collected from opening Resplendent Reward Packages, which are rewarded after players complete event quests and bounties.

What to Buy with Destiny 2's Strange Coins

Destiny 2 Starhorse

Strange Coins in Destiny 2 can be used to purchase the following from Starhorse:

  • Legendary engram - 3 Strange Coins
  • 1000 Glimmer - 5 Strange Coins
  • Paraversal Haul - 7 Strange Coins
  • Treasure Key - 10 Strange Coins

Players can also use Strange Coins is to purchase Daily and Weekly bounties from Starhorse. These bounties feature specific tasks for players to accomplish while participating in Dares of Eternity. The Daily bounties, purchased with three Strange Coins, reward players with a Paraversal Haul and XP once completed.

Of the Weekly bounties available, two can be purchased with five Strange Coins each and reward players with two Paraversal Hauls, an Enhancement Core used to masterwork weapons, and a large amount of XP. The third Weekly bounty costs seven Strange Coins and, once completed, rewards players with three Paraversal Hauls, an Enhancement Prism used to masterwork armor, and a large amount of XP. Unlike other bounties in Destiny 2, however, players can only have one Starhorse Bounty at a time, and they must complete it in a single run of Dares of Eternity or its progress will reset.

When first joining in on the 30th Anniversary event festivities in Destiny 2, it may be in a player's best interest to refrain from spending any of their Strange Coins. This is because seven Strange Coins are required to advance the first step of the new Forerunner Exotic Sidearm quest, which is free to all players. After that, the next step of the Exotic quest tasks players with completing three Starhorse bounties, which they can purchase using their stockpile of Strange Coins. For players eager to collect all the Destiny 2 event rewards, participating in the Dares of Eternity activity, collecting Strange Coins and Treasure Keys, and completing Starhorse's bounties are the best ways to do it.
