A fan-made coronavirus movie poster parodies Get Out as Stay In. The 2017 Jordan Peele horror film won an Oscar for best original screenplay and helped cement Peele as one of the freshest, up and coming filmmakers Hollywood has to offer.

Peele’s unique take on horror filmmaking also provided a gigantic leap for a genre that has traditionally been widely dismissed by critics and awards bodies. The unprecedented success of Get Out grew from a simple enough premise - that of a young black man feeling increasingly ill at ease at his white girlfriend’s parents’ isolated country home. The film explored much more than what it promised on the surface, and in addition to its themes of racial division, ignorance and idealization, Get Out also focused on the concept of isolation. Ironically enough, where the film’s fictitious world pointed out the inherently detrimental effects of isolation on people and societies, the real world is now clinging to the concept of social isolation in the face of the ongoing coronavirus (aka Covid-19) pandemic. Things have been quite grim as of late and many of us are taking a laugh wherever we can get one.

Thankfully, the internet is alive as ever with creative efforts to make the world laugh. And despite theater closures in many cities around the world as well as mass delays on new film releases, many of us now find ourselves stuck inside, watching more films than ever. What better time, then, to incorporate the often-frightening reality of the coronavirus with Peele’s Get Out? That’s exactly what Twitter user BossLogic decided was needed, anyway. As it turns out, the end result is not only hilarious, but also a bit of much needed advice during these difficult times. Check out the transformed Get Out poster for Stay In below:

The poster’s tagline “Just because you feel fine, doesn’t mean you are” is sage advice indeed, pointing to the need for people to avoid passing germs by staying in. The roll of toilet paper is a nod to the absurd mania that has gripped many people who have wiped out entire inventories of the stuff in an effort to stockpile supplies. In addition to that, the poster’s transformed Daniel Kaluuya also holds a bottle of hand sanitizer. The bag of pasta is likely a reference to a recent viral video in which an elderly Italian man bemoans the fact that there is no more pasta on the shelves of stores. The virus has hit Italy particularly hard, with the entire nation locked down in an ongoing state of quarantine. Of course, neither Italy’s quarantine nor the lack of pasta is something to laugh at, but the poster is a lighthearted look at the state of the world right now.

There are sure to be those who feel that the entire poster is in poor taste, but aside from the much-needed measures involved in social isolation, people everywhere need a laugh now and then in order to keep spirits up. The virus is particularly dangerous for the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, so it is important to remember that just because you feel fine, it doesn’t mean that you are. The best way to avoid getting those most vulnerable to coronavirus sick is to stay in, and if you happen to be one of the few who has never seen Get Out, now is a great time to do so.
