Through a partnership with Electrify America, Swedish carmaker Volvo offers buyers of its electric models free charging access for three years. Although the electric vehicle scene is bigger than a decade ago, automakers still have to implement several strategies to encourage the transition from gasoline models. One way to onboard more consumers is by relieving the worry about where to charge an EV. Admittedly, there have been notable efforts to build a comprehensive charging network. The U.S. has partnered with stakeholders like Tesla and Electrify America to make charging stations more affordable and accessible to users.

Tesla has also announced plans to expand its network to other EVs. Tesla's Superchargers are known for their high speeds, meaning that wait times will be reduced. Tesla's supercharging network is also more widely spread and readily available and should ease the charging woes of non-Tesla EV owners when support is rolled out. The Inflation Reduction Act's passage is also targeted at making EV ownership more attractive. Meanwhile, home charging has become more convenient since people can install Level 2 outlets and enjoy faster charge times. Tesla's Wall Connector is a popular product and will likely remain so after introducing a wall charger that other EVs.

Volvo, like most automakers, has a growing lineup of EVs. Currently, it offers the XC40 Recharge (SUV) and C40 Recharge (Crossover). To encourage patronage of both models, the company has followed the path of its competitors and now offers buyers complimentary charging access for three years. Volvo's subsidiary Polestar also has an active deal with Electrify America to reward new purchases of the Polestar 2 with free charging. Volvo's Electrify America plan comprises 250 kWh worth of charging over three years, followed by a free 12-month Electrify America Pass+ membership subscription when the 250 kWh is exhausted. Volvo EV buyers need to download the Electrify America mobile app to get this offer, which can then be used to start and stop charging remotely. Those without existing accounts need to create new ones and supply the charging plan enrollment code provided by the dealer. The Volvo EV's VIN will be requested for verification purposes.

Aside from DC fast charging, Volvo and Electrify America's partnership also covers Level 2 charging. The offer begins on the day the vehicle is bought, and Volvo is responsible for sharing that information with Electrify America. Volvo EV owners can charge their cars for free until the available 250 kWh limit is exhausted. Drivers have to pay to keep using Electrify America's chargers after that, but the $4 per month Electrify America Pass+ membership fee is waived. This offer applies to 2022 or newer models of the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge.

It's worth mentioning that only models whose VINs were submitted to Electrify America are eligible for this offer. The complimentary deal excludes a $0.40 per minute idle fee which drivers will pay following a ten-minute grace period once charging is completed. Volvo EV owners are advised to monitor their remaining credit through the 'Plan Details' of the Electrify America mobile app.
