Ringing in a new year, BeReal provided users with a fun look back at 2022. BeReal should be proud of the popularity the app gained over the summer. In recognition of the platform's widespread use and innovative design, Apple awarded the photo-sharing app with iPhone App of the Year. But it's ultimately users that keep all social media platforms in business, so it is always gratifying when the platform gives them some recognition.A BeReal 2022 Recap experience may be different from other social media platforms. As the social platform is famed for its no-filter experience, its photo collage allows users to reflect on the past year with a more realistic perspective. While many appreciate the candid moment, it also illustrates how boring life can sometimes be.RELATED: Spotify Has A Snapchat Lens For Your Wrapped Listening Personality

Finding Your 2022 BeReal ‘Wrapped’

BeReal Recap 2022 is easy to access but isn’t in obvious sight. Start by opening the app and tapping on the Profile icon at the top right. BeReal will open the user’s memories for the last 14 days. Tap the ‘View all my Memories’ button to open a broader menu. At the bottom of the screen, next to the Calendar icon, select the Recap tab. Users will find their BeReal video featuring their posts from the past year. Just tap to play and share with friends. If users don’t have more than 14 posts, BeReal will let them know they need more before they can participate.

BeReal’s year-end recap is just as authentic as its platform and stays away from any bells and whistles. The year-end video doesn’t add personalized messages or text, like Snapchat’s Year In Review. It is just a sequence of BeReal’s dual-camera photos played in a fast-paced series. The platform does not provide any music to play over the footage either. Instead, users had to place their favorite music over the footage when sharing the results on other social media sites. Some users did not mind tapping into their inner creative side, but some did point out that the experience wasn’t exactly reminiscent of their year either.

BeReal user jess took to Twitter to show off what they envisioned for a BeReal Recap. Their artistic flair included a catchy tune and, as an added touch, broke the photos up with meaningful messages to highlight each segment. Other users made memes from the look-back experience. A large part of the joke was users sitting in the same place daily but with different poses and clothes, implying they lived a boring life.

BeReal’s version of 2022 ‘wrapped’ does capture the true essence of its platform, but users wanted more. It might have been a slight letdown, given the app's major success this year. As 2023 nears, everyone is looking toward BeReal to dominate authentic social media. Instead, those same competitors are copying BeReal’s designs. It has been a successful start for the fledgling app, and perhaps the new year will hold more surprises for BeReal.
