Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton will star in George Miller's next movie, Three Thousand Years of Longing. Miller returned to his high-octane Mad Max franchise three years ago, which brought him back to prominence in Hollywood. Mad Max: Fury Road starred Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron and used their star power, great trailers, and rave reviews to catapult it to a $378.8 million box office haul. Although many wanted to see a sequel, legal battles with Warner Bros. have delayed that possibility and turned Miller's attention to a brand new project.

It was recently announced that Miller's next film will be Three Thousand Years of Longing. He wrote the script and is set to direct the feature, which is being described as a love story with an epic scope. Thanks to Miller's stature, it was expected that the movie project would find major stars to lead and that has quickly proven to be true.

THR reports Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton will star in Three Thousand Years of Longing. Based on the love story that is said to be at the heart of the film, it is likely that Elba and Swinton will play the two romantic leads, but that is not confirmed. As a matter of fact, no character details for Elba or Swinton have been revealed to this point. The only character tidbit that has come out is that one of the characters is a genie.

While both Elba and Swinton have committed to Three Thousand Years of Longing, neither have signed deals to this point. The reasoning for this is Miller's epic does not yet have a home studio or any financing. A deal is expected to be made next week when Miller shops the project to studios and financiers at the American Film Market. If this does wind up happening, then formal deals for both stars could follow, along with a better idea for the film's production schedule. It is currently expected to begin filming sometime in 2019.

Elba and Swinton are major coups for Three Thousand Years of Longing. Elba is a favorite amongst movie fans and will next be seen as the villain in Hobbs & Shaw. He also recently joined the feature adaptation of Cats starring Taylor Swift, which will likely be what he films before working with Miller for the first time. Swinton will also be working with Miller for the first time. She joins Three Thousand Years of Longing right as her latest film, Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria remake, is about to hit theaters. If Miller's film is truly an epic, then Elba and Swinton may just be the first of many high profile stars to join Three Thousand Years of Longing.
