George Clooney 'Glad' Academy Kicked Harvey Weinstein Out

Up in the Air George Clooney

Geore Clooney says that he's quite happy that the Academy has removed Harvey Weinstein from its ranks. Clooney, of course, is a very popular actor/filmmaker who has starred in such films as Ocean's Eleven, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Up in the Air. The actor, who originally got his start on the TV show ER, is part of the group who decided that Harvery Weinstein should be kicked out of the elite group that is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, after multiple allegations of sexual assault.

Clooney is one of many actors who have denounced Harvey Weinstein. When discussing the issue, Clooney had this to say: “We hope this is a watershed moment for us as a society, where women feel safe enough to talk about this issue, feel believed, and where men who are committing these crimes, these violations, don’t feel safe, and feel as if, if they do these things, they’re going to be outed..." Clooney not only took issue with Weinstein, but with others such as Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, and Bill O'Reilly, who have also come under fire for their despicable actions towards women.

Per Variety, Clooney called out Allen after Allen called the allegations against Weinstein a "witch hunt." Clooney claims that that the actions taken against Weinstein are "overdue" and that Allen saying that is "stupid" for saying what he said. Clooney is glad that something was finally done and that Harvey Weinstein has now been kicked out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Clooney is avid when it comes to questioning why this all wasn't brought to light sooner. This whole Harvey Weinstein thing has basically been an open secret in Hollywood, but Clooney says that no one with power to change things wanted to talk about it. He specifically wished that investigators had reported about it, saying he "would have liked to have seen it" in order for the public to have taken these issues more seriously.

While it's noble for Clooney to be open about things now, Weinstein has been known to be a predator for quite some time. Sadly, his clout allowed him to continue his horrible actions without any sort of consequences. All these actors coming out against Weinstein now should have taken things more seriously before it became such an issue.

With that being said, Clooney is trying to do what he can to isolate Weinstein from Hollywood as much as possible. With this all finally coming into the spotlight, it will hopefully help other women in the future. Hollywood has been taking advantage of women for a long time and it's time for that to change.
