Geoffrey Rush Voicing 'Green Lantern' Tomar-Re

Geoffrey Rush, is known for a number of entertaining performances: including Captain Barbossa in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean series - and most recently his Academy Award nomination for Lionel Logue in The King's Speech.

The fact that Rush played a renowned speech therapist should make it less surprising to hear the performer has also made a name for himself as a voice actor - a profession that, most recently, has led director Martin Campbell to cast him as the voice of Green Lantern Corps member Tomar-Re.

Tomar-Re, as many Green Lantern fans are already aware, is known for training new Green Lanterns - most notably Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). In inexperienced hands, the power ring is an especially dangerous weapon - and it's expected that, much like the comics, the feature film will utilize Tomar-Re as a wise and patient instructor who helps Jordan adapt to the Green Lantern Corps as well as his newfound powers.

As mentioned, Rush is no stranger to voice acting - recording vocals for Nigel the pelican in Finding Nemo as well as Ezylryb in Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Rush's vocal work in both films showcases his ability to deliver loads of exposition, while also keeping things light - a skill-set that will undoubtedly be put to the test in Green Lantern.

Green Lantern tomar-re Oa

Hal Jordan's backstory, and powers, are much more complicated and fantasy-based than other high-profile DC properties such as Batman or even Superman - not to mention that mainstream audiences will be much less familiar with the character's backstory. The Green Lantern movie is expected to take moviegoers to distant planets, such as the Lantern homeworld Oa, as well introduce them to numerous alien species (and even a sentient planet). As a result, it's going to be especially important for a "trainer" like Tomar-Re to be able to provide a lot of information - without sounding like he's reading an instruction manuel.

Rush will share Tomar-Re duty with stunt actor Dorian Kingi - who performed the motion capture for the character. Also, if rumors turn out to be true, Rush could soon be joining forces with Michael Clark Duncan who may voice the booming brute Kilowog.
