miHoYo's Genshin Impact is almost always getting new playable characters for fans to add to their ever-growing rosters. Even now, Kazuha is arriving soon as a Banner for Version 1.6 and teases for Yoimiya, Ayaka, and Sayu have already been officially released. However, some of the latest character models look a lot like ones already in-game, which begs the question of whether Genshin Impact is running out of original character designs or not.

Two of the most recent characters revealed are Kazuha and Yoimiya, both of whom look a lot like the Traveler siblings already in Genshin Impact. From the shape of his face to the curls in his hair, Kazuha bears an uncanny resemblance to the male Traveler. Likewise, Yoimiya's hair, face, and eyes all look strikingly similar to the female Traveler's features. This certainly makes it seem like miHoYo has run out of original ideas for its characters, but this problem is actually nothing new.

The most recent new character in Genshin Impact is Eula, who looks a lot like Ganyu. Although they play very differently, it's easy to look at their outfits and blue hair and get them mixed up. However, Genshin Impact's problems with unique character designs go back even to the very beginning of the game. Characters like Mona and Lisa look almost identical, although this is perhaps intentional based on their backgrounds (and as evident by their names). However, characters like Ninggung and Jean and Childe and Zhongli look a lot alike as well - with similar face shapes and haircuts that are essentially just color swaps and (in the case of Zhongli and Childe) with hair parted the opposite way.

How Genshin Impact Could Make More Unique Character Models

Genshin Impact Character Leaks Cyno

Even characters who have yet to appear in Genshin Impact like Cyno already look like characters in-game. In Cyno's case, of course, he bears a striking resemblance to Razor. This is indicative of a larger problem with the game - as the roster of characters keeps growing, it's seemingly more difficult to create characters that look unique. It's much easier to simply replace a few features and make color palette swaps than spend time and money creating characters that look truly different.

There's really no clear answer for how miHoYo can fix its character designs. Perhaps it will stop adding in new characters to Genshin Impact and give them different forms instead, like in Honkai Impact 3rd. It's a growing problem with Genshin Impact that will definitely need to be addressed in the future. Perhaps the best solution is for miHoYo to literally head back to the drawing board.
