Before Genshin Impact released, developer miHoYo announced the free-to-play RPG would be arriving on the Nintendo Switch. However, this came with one caveat: The Switch port of the game would release after the PS4, PC, and mobile versions. For Switch owners, this wasn't necessarily surprising, since many games have delayed releases on Nintendo's system. Since then, though, miHoYo has been fairly quiet about the Switch version. So, what's taking so long?

Although Genshin Impact was announced for Switch, this version of the game hasn't had a specific release date. Because of this, it's difficult to know for sure whether or not a delay in development has actually occurred, or if it's just taking miHoYo this long to get this version ready for Nintendo. While some fans have speculated the Switch port is cancelled, there's been no official announcement to back this up. So, for now, it seems like the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact is still happening.

If that's the case, the biggest question now is what's taking miHoYo so long to get the game ready for Switch. This may be due to hardware issues or the way games have to be approved by Nintendo and for the eShop ahead of their releases. Among Us' developers, InnerSloth, detailed the ways in which the Switch version of Among Us delayed the Airship map, and cosmetics for the game still cannot be purchased from the Switch's eShop. This may be the root of the problem when it comes to Genshin Impact's release on Switch.

Nintendo eShop Problems Could Affect Genshin Impact's Switch Port

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play RPG, but it has microtransactions in the form of Primogems, Fates, and Passes - which are used to get in-game items and pull more playable characters through the game's gacha-pull Wish system. Because of this, it's vital to have premium options available through the eShop, and this could be what's holding up the Switch release of the game.

Although nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo or miHoYo at this point, it's certainly possible disputes over earnings through the eShop or other factors with Genshin Impact's premium purchases are stalling the game's Switch release. This could explain why the PS5 version of Genshin Impact is releasing soon, despite the Switch port being announced already.

Until miHoYo makes an official announcement, there's no way to know for sure - and perhaps fans will never truly know what's going on behind the scenes. For now, though, it looks as if the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact is still happening. Hopefully, that means a release date will be announced soon.
