The world of Genshin Impact is one of its greatest strengths, and soon players will be able to do more than just explore it — they will be able to live there, too. Genshin Impact continues to be one of the last year's hottest free-to-play games, with a steady stream of updates that include new regions, quests, and characters, so there is always something new to check out. Genshin Impact's upcoming 1.5 update will be no exception and looks to be one of its biggest updates yet, adding not only new characters but also a robust in-game housing system.

It's a major new system and with that comes some big questions. Are players forced to participate in the housing system? Are there rewards for engaging with the new system, or can players safely bypass it if home-building isn't something that interest them? Thankfully, developer miHoYo has given players some details on what to expect once Genshin Impact's 1.5 housing update arrives.

For those players who are interested in building a fantastical dream estate in Genshin Impact, there certainly looks to be plenty for would-be virtual home-owners to sink their teeth into. Here's everything currently known about Genshin Impact's upcoming housing system, from how to get started to how to unlock new buildings.

Everything To Know About Genshin Impact's New Housing System

Genshin Impact Housing Tea Pot

According to miHoYo, to get started building a dream home, players will need to track down Madame Ping and acquire a magical Serenitea Pot from her. Madame Ping has the power to manifest entire realms within various vessels, in this case the teapot. Players can then use the teapot to be transported to a realm of their choosing. There are three initial realm styles for players to choose from when entering the tea pot for the first time: Floating Abode, Emerald Peak, and Cool Isle. Each template will come with a few pre-made buildings in the style of the game's Liyue or Mondstadt regions.

From there, players can get to customizing their homes thanks to a friendly spirit by the name of Tubby. Players can discover various blueprints while exploring Genshin Impact's world. Building more furnishings and customizing the Domain will earn Tubby's trust, which then allows him to offer resources and assistance. Engaging with the housing system will earn players "Realm Currency" over time, which can be used to unlock new furnishings, items, or be traded with a traveling merchant for various resources. Friends can be invited to these Domains as well, so players will be able to show off their creations with others.

While many players may want to spend time with the Serenitea Pot and creating their own home, it isn't mandatory for the main storyline. If home-building isn't a player's cup of tea, they can safely bypass the system and just miss out on a few in-game resources over time. miHoYo is saying more features will be coming to the housing system in the future, so update 1.5 is just the beginning. Additionally, housing is just one part of Genshin Impact's new update, which will also be adding new playable characters and native PlayStation 5 support that will feature 4K resolution and faster load times. The update is set to arrive on April 28 across PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile.
