Taking inspiration from Studio Ghibli's iconic My Neighbor Totoro, an incredibly talented Genshin Impact fan designed an animated short featuring Klee and Dodoco. Klee joined Genshin Impact's robust roster of characters weeks after launch in October 2020.

A powerful Pyro, this playable hero is also known for her status as a Knights of Favonius member. Like several other Genshin Impact characters, Klee boasts an instantly recognizable look and style, and there's no way of mistaking her for another when Dodoco tags along. Dodoco is an adorable rabbit-like doll that Klee's mother, Alice, made when she was much younger. It now hangs by a chain affixed to Klee's bag, yet hardly ever seems to be out of her sight. Unsurprisingly, the Genshin Impact community quickly grew attached to Dodoco; thus, fan-made dolls, keychains, and plushes have become a dime a dozen. Dodoco's cute features are being immortalized elsewhere, too.

One Genshin Impact player who goes by bekobekodesu on Reddit recently wowed the community's subreddit by posting a clip of a Klee and Dodoco-starring animation. The 48-second short, aptly titled My Neighbor Dodoco, bears an art style that resembles the world-renowned work of Studio Ghibli. It comes complete with a rather impressive soundscape, too, colored by ambient music and the noise of birds tweeting in the background. Akin to the iconic imagery associated with My Neighbor Totoro, the Genshin Impact short positions Klee comfortably atop a large tree branch, surrounded by one massive and a few smaller Dodoco creatures. Genshin Impact fan or not, this stunning homage is well worth a watch.

Well over 30 years after its initial release, the Studio Ghibli masterpiece continues to inspire generations of artists. Of course, the studio's imprint is all over popular culture, from Level-5's stunning Ni no Kuni games to the Ghibli Park attraction that will open next fall in Japan. It's clear that Studio Ghibli also left a mark on the miHoYo developers who brought Genshin Impact to life.

Genshin Impact hit the ground running in September 2020, instantly rising to popularity on PC, PS4, and mobile platforms. A free PlayStation 5 update launched this past Spring, unlocking faster loading speeds, 4K resolution, and enhanced graphics. Details about the eagerly-anticipated Nintendo Switch version counts as one piece of news that fans continue to patiently await.
