Unlocking Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region has been available since the release of Version 3.0. That Genshin Impact update introduced the Nation of Wisdom of Teyvat. Sumeru’s reigning element is Dendro, which was also added to the game for the first time as a playable feature via new characters and open-world mechanics.

Sumeru features the main questline, introducing the Nation’s Archon, Nahida, and exploring how they are connected to the local Akademiya institution. Before experiencing this, however, players must first actually unlock Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region, which requires a few steps before it's ready to be explored.

How To Get To Sumeru In Genshin Impact

The natural method to unlock Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region is by following the Archon Quests. The one that leads players to the Nation of Wisdom is “Chapter III - Act I - Through Mists of Smoke and Forests Dark,” which follows “Chapter II - Act IV - Requiem of the Echoing Depths.” Essentially, players who have gone through the storyline where they face the Abyss Lector and help Dainsleif in The Chasm will be shown the way toward Sumeru.

However, because of the game’s seamlessly connected world, it is possible to access Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region immediately after completing the first act of the prologue chapter. This means players who barely explored Genshin Impact’s Mondstadt region and faced the first domain temples through the story can go to Sumeru. Access is made possible through many different paths.

Players who want to reach Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region without following the Archon storyline can head over to The Chasm in Liyue and find the cave that connects both regions immediately next to a Teleport Waypoint in the far west corner. Another option is walking and climbing around The Chasm’s outer surface through the northern portion, and later dropping into Sumeru when at the western-most point.

A far less popular choice is going to Mt. Hulao, one of Genshin Impact’s best Cor Lapis farming spots, and gliding down southwest. Unlocking Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region before progressing adequately through the Archon storyline is a tactic that can be used to find resources to level Sumeru-themed characters that rely on local specialties for their Ascensions and Talents. While Inazuma characters’ progressions are somewhat blocked due to the archipelago’s natural inaccessibility, Sumeru characters can be leveled very early on due to this workaround.

As such, fan-favorite heroes such as Wanderer, Cyno, and Genshin Impact’s Dendro Archon, Nahida, can all be ascended faster than players might expect, depending on their experience level. Not following through with the Archon storyline, however, will make it impossible to progress to certain regions and unlock specific places, resources, and NPCs. Nonetheless, this is how players can unlock Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region.
