Ganyu is the newest playable character coming to Version 1.2 of Genshin ImpactAs a 5-star Banner character, Ganyu will be incredibly rare and obtained through the game's gacha-pull Wish system. However, for those lucky enough to acquire her, she should be a welcome addition. Here's everything you should know about Genshin Impact's new playable character.

Ganyu is expected to arrive next week, as the newest Banner character for Genshin Impact's Wish system. This will happen after Albedo's current Banner ends. Both Albedo and Ganyu were introduced as playable characters for Version 1.2, which means Ganyu may be the last new character in Genshin Impact before Version 1.3 arrives in February.

Ganyu is a Cryo user, which means she uses the Ice element in combat. She also uses a bow, which means ranged attacks that can pick off enemies from great distances. First appearing during the Liyue portion of the main storyline of Genshin Impact, Ganyu has close ties to several of the main factions in the game. She is an emissary for the Liyue Qixing, and she's half-human and half-Adeptus. This means she has human characteristics while also having some features of the gods. This makes her a pretty unique character in the game, as well.

Why Ganyu Is Important In Genshin Impact

Ganyu in Genshin Impact's Liyue.

Because of her lineage as a half-human and half-Adeptus, Ganyu will provide an interesting link between the human Genshin Impact characters and the gods. She also has Cryo Vision, a gift from the gods, which serves as an important elemental conduit. This Vision is very similar to that of another playable character, Fischl, whose Vision is manifested in the Electro hawk Oz. Because of this, Ganyu's Cryo abilities should be pretty incredible.

For now, it appears Ganyu will serve an important role between humans and the gods in Genshin Impact. She devoutly follows the Geo Archon, Rex Lapis, and it's hinted that there's a connection between the two. So far, though, that connection remains a mystery. However, because Ganyu has served Rex Lapsis so long, she may be the oldest of the Adepti, meaning she's actually thousands of years old. And because she is so closely tied to the gods, Ganyu may be the character who can shed the most light on the mysteries of Genshin Impact's Unknown God.

Although Ganyu will have an important role in the main story, she's also going to provide some great Cryo and ranged attacks in combat. Players who are excited for Ganyu to finally arrive in Genshin Impact shouldn't have to wait too much longer. Ganyu is expected to appear as a Banner character in the game sometime next week, most likely around January 13th.
