Players of Genshin Impact can get themselves some free Primogems as compensation for server downtime related to the 2.0 update that went live on July 21. Genshin Impact's Primogems are a type of premium in-game currency used for Battle Pass upgrades, the purchase of Wishes, or Original Resin replenishment.

The free-to-play fantasy RPG's 2.0 update is a substantial one, not just introducing new characters, quests, and monsters, but also a whole new realm for players to explore. Known as the Inazuma region, the location features three areas available for players ranking level 30 or above. New weapons will be available for the first time, including the Mistsplitter Reforged, which will deal elemental damage relating to the user's affinities. As for new characters, the 2.0 update launch introduces Kamisato Ayaka (a Cyro sword wielder), who was playable during the game's first closed beta test. More characters will come to Genshin Impact in the future.

Developer miHoYO has shared full details on the 2.0 update, which is named "The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia," and explained how players can claim their Primogem compensation. Server downtime maintenance compensation will be 60 Primogems per hour that the servers are down, for a total of 300 Primogems. On top of this, players can also claim another 300 Primogems for "issue fix compensation." Both bonuses are available for "Travelers who reach Adventure Rank 5 and above before 2021/07/21 06:00 (UTC+8)." Anyone looking to claim their compensation can do so by checking for updates (PC, iOS, PS4, and PS5), or following the on-screen instructions (Android).

Free Primogems: Genshin Impact Server Downtime

The extra Primogems should come in handy when exploring Genshin Impact's new Inazuma region. The 2.0 update initially launched with three new areas to explore: Narukami Island, Kannazuka, and Yashiori Island. The locations will become available once players have completed the "Chapter II: Act I - The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia" Archon Quest. As well as new areas, players can enjoy several new Domains, including the Domain of Forgery, the Domain of Mastery, and the Domain of Blessing. More details can be found on the official game website.

Genshin Impact's 2.0 update is one of the biggest the game has seen since it first launched in 2020, providing even more content for players to explore. The free-to-play RPG has been a huge success so far, and is likely to entice even more gamers when it comes to Nintendo Switch. Though a Switch port has been announced, it's rumored that Genshin Impact is struggling on Switch hardware. If true, the port could face more trouble with the 2.0 update, which comes in at around 2.0GB on mobile, and 6.5GB on PC and PlayStation.
