At its core, Genshin Impact is still a gacha game. This means most of the game's rarest weapons, items, and even characters are obtained through RNG-based gacha pulls. In Genshin Impact, this is called the Wish system. 3-star weapons are fairly common, while some 5-star characters have an extremely low drop rate of around 0.6%. This begs the question: will Genshin Impact's drop rates ever change?

Some of the most popular characters in Genshin Impact are only obtained through the Wish system. This means if players want to obtain a popular Genshin Impact character like Diluc or Venti, they'll need a good amount of time and luck. It can also mean spending real money for in-game currency to make more Wishes.

Currently, the drop rates for the best items and weapons are also pretty low. Getting in-game Fates or Primogems to spend on Wishes are also a mixed bag. While Primogems are fairly common, most treasure chests only contain 2-5 of them. Players need 160 Primogems to buy a Fate in order to make a Wish for a better character or weapon. Other currencies like Starglitter are incredibly rare but can be used to acquire characters and rare items as well. Since Genshin Impact is a free-to-play gacha game, these kinds of mechanics are expected. However, drop and pull rates may change in the future.

When Genshin Impact's Drop Rates May Change

The pull rates of some 5-star characters will most likely change as new characters are introduced into the game. If developer miHoYo's update roadmap is anything to go by, the company is planning on introducing new characters soon. This could mean characters like Diluc and Venti have a pull rate that changes from 0.6% to something slightly more common like 2%. They'd still be rare, but the chances of getting an older character would be higher than what it currently is.

Since Primogems can be obtained in the game, and buying them for Fates and Wishes is how Genshin Impact makes its money, it's unlikely those drop rates will change anytime soon. However, the drop rates of Masterless Stardust and Masterless Starglitter may change in future updates. These kinds of changes usually come with quality-of-life updates, and Patch 1.1 is already rumored to bring about changes to Resin, so it's certainly possible.

Because Genshin Impact makes money from players who buy currency for gacha pulls, drop rates probably won't change too drastically. However, the pull rates for characters and weapons may improve as newer content is introduced into the game. Patch 1.1 is arriving in early November, so players should get to see if drop rates and pull rates are tweaked soon.
