With the release of Genshin Impact Version 3.0, the Dendro element, and the Sumeru region, many fans noticed that the pharmacist Baizhu was missing from the list of characters planned for the update. To many players this seemed like a wasted opportunity. The character has an in-depth backstory, major connections to the playable cast, and possesses a vision, the perfect recipe for a new playable character. However, since his introduction in the Fall of 2020, Baizhu has sadly remained just an NPC.

Fans had their first opportunity to meet the Baizhu during their adventures in Liyue. Baizhu, the owner of the Bubu Pharmacy and guardian of playable character Qiqi, assists the player in many quests. Being the first and only character with a Dendro vision before the announcement of Genshin Impact 3.0, many speculated that his absence as a playable character was due to the fact that his corresponding vision had not been released yet. Now that Dendro has been released, there seems to be very little holding back Baizhu from joining the main roster.

Being an extremely clever pharmacist, Baizhu would make an amazing 5- star, Dendro support character. He could potentially use his skill in medicine, as well as his pet snake, Changsheng in combat, creating shields to allies or applying balms that heal over time. This could also potentially lead him to having unique mechanics, such as the ability to cure debuffs, or turning herbs into special medicine that provide buffs, similar to food. With limitless possibilities for combat, Baizhu seems like the perfect fit for both gameplay and story.

Genshin Impact's Baizhu Should Be Playable During The 3.X Sumeru Content

Genshin Impact Skipping 2.9 Update 3.0 Dendro Vision Baizhu

Baizhu was born with a rare, physical illness that makes him frail, and unable to perform substantial labor. Due to his clever, and inquisitive personality however, Baizhu has started searching for something that can help improve his quality of life, the elusive secret of eternal life. While this may be a reason he hasn't been introduced to Genshin's action-oriented cast, many speculate that we could see his story develop in Sumeru, as the region is filled with many magical, plant-based entities. Perhaps Baizhu will find an herb that leads him one step closer to eternal life, allowing him to regain some physical ability, or maybe we could learn more about Changsheng's origins. While these theories seem like they have interesting potential for the continuation of Baizhu's story, it's still too early to tell where he is going in Genshin Impact's future.

Even though Baizhu could fit mechanically and logically into the game, his exclusion from the first update of Sumeru has not been surprising. To assist the launch of a new region, like Sumeru, the best characters to start with are those who actually live there. This would allow for more natural exploration of the zone, as well as familiarize players with the struggle and stories of the characters they are rolling for. Baizhu, being an NPC from much earlier in the game, lacks the same appeal a brand-new character has.

While players were disappointed that Baizhu wasn't released in the first update of Genshin Impact 3.0, many still hold onto hope that he is going to be released in the near future. Due to his overwhelming popularity as a character, it shouldn't be long before they add the sly, yet kind-hearted pharmacist to the game. With Genshin Impact Version 3.1 just around the corner, Baizhu fans everywhere eagerly anticipate news about the character with every update.
