Although previously hinted for a future Genshin Impact update, Arataki Itto has now been officially unveiled by developer miHoYo. With the Version 2.2 update arriving soon, it's certainly possible Itto will become playable then - but it's more likely he'll arrive on his own Banner Wish later on. Here's when Genshin Impact fans should expect to find Itto in the game.
During the Version 2.2 Special Program livestream, Thoma was the only new playable character announced. This was quite a surprise since Genshin Impact updates typically add at least two new characters. Several characters - namely, Itto and Gorou - had been rumored to release in a near-future update, so many fans expected to see something of those characters during the livestream. However, it's unlikely Thoma will be the only playable character in 2.2, even though he's the only one confirmed by miHoYo so far.
Thanks to the official Genshin Impact Twitter account, fans now have their first glimpse at Arataki Itto as well as a closer look at Gorou. The tweets stop short of confirming either character for a specific update, however, so right now the release date for Itto and Gorou are both somewhat speculative. However, Gorou was expected as a playable character for Genshin Impact 2.2, so it makes more sense for him to arrive sometime in the newest update. This means Itto will likely arrive in a later update - most likely Version 2.3.
Genshin Impact: Is Arataki Itto Playable In Version 2.2 Or Version 2.3?
A big reveal like Itto would've made more sense for the Version 2.2 livestream if he were coming in that update. Most likely, miHoYo dropped images and info of Itto on Twitter before any leaks from the Genshin Impact 2.3 beta test could surface. Unfortunately, for those hoping to see Itto on his own Banner soon, this probably means he won't be available until Version 2.3 of the game arrives in late November.
Thus far, little has been revealed about Itto. He is the leader of the Arataki Gang and will be a Geo user, with miHoYo describing him as "Fast as the wind and mighty as thunder, he is an intrepid man with Oni blood running through his veins." With miHoYo cracking down on Genshin Impact leakers, it's also possible this is all the information fans will get for a while. However, players should expect to see Arataki Itto appear in Version 2.3 of Genshin Impact, since this seems like the most likely time for him to arrive given miHoYo's release schedules and the way the studio handles major updates.
